Data Center - Systems Engineer - Lead

Responsibilities

Peraton supports the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mission to deliver timely, reliable care and benefits to America's Veterans by engineering, operating, and modernizing a nationwide data center portfolio. Our team runs enterprise and regional data centers, telecommunications spaces, and secure network connections that host the systems Veterans depend on - from claims processing and pharmacy fulfillment to appointment scheduling and benefits delivery. We provide full-lifecycle data center and cloud engineering, 24×7×365 operations and monitoring, DCIM platform administration, analytics, and facility infrastructure reporting. Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Serve as senior/escalation-level engineer for compute, storage, and systems services across data center facilities.
• Lead complex troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and remediation for high-impact incidents.
• Design and execute maintenance windows, upgrades, and technology refresh activities.
• Mentor mid-level engineers; contribute runbooks, standards, and automation improvements.
• Coordinate vendor engagements for warranty, break/fix, and firmware/OS upgrades.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Currently possess or be able to obtain VA Public Trust - High Risk (BI High) / Tier 4 background investigation.
• 4 years of data center systems engineering experience, with demonstrated senior-level troubleshooting capability.
• Supervisory experience
• Shiftwork may be required

Desired Skills, Tools & Certifications

• Tools: Data center monitoring and management tools including Nlyte Asset Optimizer / Energy Optimizer (DCIM), ServiceNow (ITSM/CMDB), SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, PuTTY, Wireshark, PowerShell, Python, Power BI, MS Visio, and SharePoint. plus VMware vSphere, Ansible / PowerShell / Python for automation.
• Processes: ITIL v4 service management, SAFe Agile / Scrum for iterative delivery, NIST 800-53 / RMF, ISO 27001, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC 9.9, VA CRISP alignment, NFPA 70/70E, and OSHA safety practices.; TIA-942.
• Certifications (desirable): CompTIA Server+ / Network+ / Security+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server / Azure Administrator, Red Hat RHCSA/RHCE, VMware VCP-DCV, ServiceNow CSA, Nlyte Certified Administrator, CDCP., ITIL v4 Foundation (Practitioner/Managing Professional a plus), SAFe Practitioner or SAFe DevOps

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
