This role will assist with site preparation, system installation, cutover, customer acceptance, testing, and legacy system decommissioning in operational environments.\nThe ideal candidate has a technical foundation in telecommunications, networking, electronics, IT, or a related field and is interested in developing hands-on experience supporting mission-critical voice systems. The technician will work alongside experienced field technicians, engineers, and program teams to complete deployments, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems are installed and transitioned according to established procedures.\nThis position is remote with approximately 95% travel requirements and may require extended periods at customer and operational sites.\nKey Responsibilities\nSupport site surveys, site preparation, equipment installation, and system deployment activities under the direction of senior technicians and engineers\nAssist with VCS system cutovers from legacy voice platforms to next-generation systems\nSupport the decommissioning and removal of legacy voice communication systems\nPerform basic system testing and validation to verify:Power and equipment connections\nCabling integrity and connectivity\nEquipment installation and site specifications\n\nAssist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of VCS and supporting telecommunications/IT infrastructure\nUse basic diagnostic tools and established procedures to help identify voice, network, and hardware issues\nSupport preventive maintenance and system health checks\nAssist with on-site customer support and provide basic end-user assistance or orientation as needed\nMaintain accurate technical documentation, service reports, installation records, and cutover documentation\nLearn and follow established safety protocols, site security requirements, and operational procedures\nWork closely with senior field technicians, engineers, program teams, and other technical personnel during deployment and transition activities\nEscalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or engineers and assist with troubleshooting and resolution\nLearn and develop proficiency with VCS systems, telecommunications equipment, testing procedures, and field deployment processes\nJunior FST primary focus areas\nTest support activities at the FAA WJHTC (New Jersey)\nTest support activities at VCS vendors locations (Maryland)\nTest support activities at Washington Labs (Maryland)\nJunior FST when paired for FAA VCS ATC cutover support (not lead)\n\n#BNATCS\nQualifications\nTechnical Qualifications\nUS Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust Clearance. \n2 years of experience with BS; 0 years with MS; 4 years with an AS; 6 years in lieu of a degree \nFamiliarity with Voice Communication Switch (VCS) systems, telecommunications systems, or similar voice/network technologies\nExposure to system cutovers, migrations, installations, or technology refresh efforts is preferred\nBasic knowledge of:Telecommunications infrastructure\nVoIP technologies\nCabling and connectivity\nPower and equipment validation\nNetworked voice systems\n\nBasic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to identify and escalate issues as needed\nExperience using basic test equipment and diagnostic tools in technical or field environments\nAbility to learn and follow established procedures in operational environments where system uptime and reliability are important\nProfessional Skills\nStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting mindset\nGood customer service and communication skills\nAbility to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or escalate issues\nStrong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures\nAbility to accurately document work performed, issues identified, and resolutions\nGood time management and ability to support deployment and installation timelines\nTeam-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate with technicians, engineers, and other technical personnel\n Willingness to learn new systems and technologies\nWork Environment\nField-based role supporting operational and technical sites\nExtensive travel (up to 95%)\nWork may occur in active operational environments requiring strict adherence to procedures, safety requirements, and technical standards\nMay require working at remote locations and supporting installations, upgrades, testing, and system cutovers\nRole Summary\nThis role is ideal for an early-career or developing technician who has a foundation in telecommunications, networking, electronics, or a related technical field and is interested in building experience supporting mission-critical voice systems. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
