This role defines the target-state cloud architecture across AWS (primary) and Azure (secondary), ensuring solutions meet FedRAMP Moderate security and compliance requirements. The Cloud Architect serves as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for cloud design decisions, partnering closely with Cloud Computing, Application Development, Data Science, Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity Engineering teams and stakeholders.\nThis position is 100% remote.\nResponsibilities\n Systems Design: Design and document scalable, resilient, and secure cloud architectures (blueprints, diagrams, and strategies) on AWS, with secondary integration and support for Azure workloads\n Compliant Architecture: Develop and implement reference architectures and design patterns aligned to FedRAMP Moderate control baselines (NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171)\nMigration & Modernization: Lead cloud migration and modernization strategy, including workload assessment, right-sizing, and cost optimization\nCost & Performance Optimization: Evaluate and recommend cloud-native and hybrid solutions that balance performance, cost, and compliance\n ATO & System Security Plans: Lead technical gap analysis, partner with the cloud security team, execute automated control mapping, and support development and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs), architecture diagrams, and other ATO documentation\n Automation (IaC): Develop and implement reusable Infrastructure as Code templates using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to ensure continuous compliance and rapid deployment\n DevSecOps Integration: Configure secure CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions, and containerization using tools such as Azure DevOps and AWS-native services (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy) and other security tooling\n Identity & Data Protection: Architect secure identity access boundaries, multi-factor authentication, single sign-on (SSO), network firewalls, and encryption schemas for data at rest and in transit\n SRE & Disaster Recovery: Build site reliability engineering (SRE) practices and disaster recovery solutions.\n Technical Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cloud engineers\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications:\nUS citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret eligible clearance\nMinimum 12 years work experience with BS/BA in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience), Min 10 years with MS/MA\n8 years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure/architecture roles on AWS\nDeep hands-on expertise designing AWS solutions, including VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, networking/Transit Gateway, KMS, Organizations, Control Tower, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, and Site-to-Site VPN\nStrong grasp of networking, databases, storage, and container tooling on AWS\nExperience with AWS cloud-native security services such as GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Inspector\nDemonstrated experience architecting within FedRAMP Moderate (or FedRAMP High/DoD or similar compliance) environments, with familiarity in NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171 control families\nExperience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices\nScripting experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell)\nExperience with cloud-native and serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, microservices) and containerization (EKS, ECS, Fargate)\nExperience with hybrid/multi-cloud architecture, including Azure (VNets, Azure AD/Entra ID, SSO/MFA, Azure Policy, Site-to-Site VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect)\nExperience implementing SRE practices and disaster recovery plans\nExperience supporting ATO and continuous monitoring processes with government customers\nCertification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional\nPreferred Qualifications:\nAWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional\nExperience with Databricks implementation and support\nAzure Solutions Architect Expert certification\nExperience with Microsoft .NET and SQL Server\nExperience with Azure\nExperience with DevSecOps\nStrong collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams\nExperience with AI/ML platforms deployed in regulated environments\nActive security clearance\nFamiliarity with AI security and governance frameworks, national security/defense/critical infrastructure missions, and supporting federal agencies or large GovCon programs\nPeraton Overview\nPeraton is a next-generation national security company that drives missions of consequence spanning the globe and extending to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
