You'll design the language people see and hear across our family of Perplexity apps, from the first screen of onboarding to the way an agent explains what it's doing. Our product is primarily spoken language and written product; but as we scale, we want someone who will continue to work on clarity, usefulness, and keep it unmistakably Perplexity.\nYou're a designer first? You're an engineer first? You're a writer first? Your shape is not conventional, and you wear many hats. You are fluent in AI tooling. You have strong UX fundamentals and good product instincts. You use language to solve product problems: flows, naming, information architecture, error states, permissions, and moments where people need to trust what the product is telling them. You command words. You command agents, and make decisions about words. You can write one perfect line, and you can build the system that keeps thousands of lines consistent.\nYou'll sit on the Design Systems team and work closely with product designers, engineers, PMs, research, brand, and marketing. (Again) You're fluent in AI-powered tools and use it every day. You understand how models behave, how prompts and system instructions shape what people see, and how to define and judge quality when the output isn't fully deterministic.\nWhat you'll do\nDesign and write in-product language across web, mobile, desktop, and voice, including UI copy, flows, onboarding, notifications, empty states, errors, and in-product education\n\nPartner with product designers from the start of a project, shaping flows, structure, and information architecture as well as the words in them\n\nName features and products, and own terminology, navigation labels, and taxonomies so the product stays easy to understand as it grows\n\nMake complex AI and agent behavior understandable, including what the product is doing, why, what it can't do, and when it needs a person's input\n\nShape how AI-generated content reads by writing and refining prompts and system instructions, and help define voice and response style for our models in product\n\nDefine content quality standards and help build evaluation criteria, datasets, and reviewer guidance for AI-generated content\n\nBuild and maintain voice and tone guidelines, content patterns, and content guidance in our design system so every team can write well\n\nUse research, data, and experiments to test language and improve comprehension, activation, and task completion\n\nPartner with brand and marketing so product language and our external voice feel like one company\n\nWork with internationalization partners so the product reads well in every language we support\n\nReview copy in code and ship small language changes directly when it's the fastest path\n\nWhat we're looking for\n5+ years of experience in content design, UX writing, or product design, shipping software at scale\n\nAn excellent portfolio that shows how your language shaped product decisions, with clear before and after examples and your role in each\n\nStrong UX fundamentals, including interaction design, information architecture, usability, and accessibility\n\nGood product sensibility and judgment about what to build, what to cut, and what matters most to people\n\nExceptional writing and editing skills, with range from precise interface copy to clear explanations and confident naming\n\nStrong AI fluency, including hands-on experience writing prompts, working with LLMs, and judging the quality of AI-generated content\n\nSystems thinking, with experience building content frameworks, style guides, or terminology that scale across teams\n\nClear communication, with the ability to explain content decisions and tradeoffs to designers, engineers, and leaders\n\nYou care about shipping great software more than anything else\n\nNice to have\nExperience designing content for AI products, assistants, agents, or conversational interfaces\n\nExperience with prompt engineering, model evals, or working with research teams on model behavior\n\nExperience across consumer and enterprise products, including admin, permissions, privacy, and billing flows\n\nComfort working in code, such as editing strings, reviewing PRs, or prototyping with AI tools\n\nExperience with localization and writing for global audiences\n\nNotes for candidates\nWe want to see portfolio work where your words changed the product.
