POSITION TITLE: Data Center Logistics Technician Instructor

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Per Scholas is seeking a Data Center Logistics Instructor to become a member of our Training Team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, problem-solving individual with strong hands-on logistics experience and instructional skills, demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic environment, and maintains a strong sense of accountability. To succeed in this role, candidates must be business-minded within our mission focus and excel in instructional delivery that meets clients’ and learners’ high expectations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Deliver instructor-led training that prepares learners for entry-level careers in data center, logistics, inventory, and asset operations. Responsibilities include daily instruction, hands-on lab facilitation, performance-based assessment, attendance, one-on-one tutoring, daily evaluation and monitoring of individual learner progress, addressing learner violations in a consistent manner, and more.
  • Facilitate hands-on labs using the classroom Mobile Infrastructure Rack (MIR) and related equipment, managing safe equipment handling and station rotation across the cohort.
  • Provide learners with access to relevant resources for outside learning on tools and study aids relevant to the curriculum.
  • Work closely with the team to identify learner needs, provide the necessary support, establish individualized plans for learner achievement, and participate in regular learner-status meetings.
  • Maintain and update Salesforce and/or our LMS with learner grades, assessment results, and progress notes.
  • Support and maintain the training curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and other classroom materials.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US

Instructional Skill Sets

  • 1-3 years of teaching or training experience.
  • Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey technical subject matter to entry-level learners.
  • Ability to respond clearly in an in-person training environment and via a digital engagement platform such as Zoom.
  • Strong communication skills.

Required Skill Sets

  • Current CompTIA A+, Server+ certification or equivalent demonstrated experience; current certification strongly preferred.
  • Proficient understanding of IT support, including hardware, software, networking, user support, endpoint troubleshooting, and service desk workflows.
  • Experience troubleshooting end-user devices, including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, peripherals, operating systems, and common productivity applications.
  • Familiarity with Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, updates, drivers, file systems, performance tools, and troubleshooting utilities.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve common IT issues, including hardware malfunctions, software problems, network connectivity issues, printer problems, mobile device issues, and user access concerns.
  • Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems, ITSM concepts, service level agreements, escalation practices, remote support tools, and customer service expectations.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, wired and wireless connectivity, switches, routers, VLAN awareness, VPN concepts, and basic troubleshooting tools.
  • Familiarity with IT security protocols and best practices, including endpoint security, malware prevention, identity/access basics, password practices, encryption, backups, and user awareness.
  • Understanding of cloud service models, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, and familiarity with major platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with virtualization concepts and tools, including client-side virtualization, Type 1/bare-metal virtualization, VMware, Hyper-V, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure, including racks, servers, network devices, power, cooling, cabling, physical security, access control, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to teach basic server hardware concepts, including server components, FRUs, storage devices, RAID concepts, firmware, remote management, and hardware maintenance.
  • Ability to teach basic data center operations, including rack and stack concepts, cable management, data-bearing device handling, chain of custody, change control, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with OSHA general industry guidelines and NFPA 70E electrical safety awareness for IT and data center environments.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate common safety hazards in IT labs, device repair environments, and data center-adjacent spaces.
  • Ability to support learners in using AI tools responsibly for troubleshooting, documentation, technical study, ticket writing, and log analysis.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, applicable certifications, and staying current with evolving IT support, AI, cloud, virtualization, and data center technologies.
  • Hands-on experience in data center logistics, inventory, or asset management operations.
  • Proficiency with a DCIM or inventory/asset management system to record, locate, and update assets.
  • Asset tagging and labeling using label printers and barcode scanners, with strong inventory-accuracy practices.
  • Experience executing RMA and warranty workflows: failed-equipment intake, intake documentation, vendor RMA submission, return shipping, and receipt confirmation.
  • Knowledge of chain-of-custody principles and documentation for data center assets, including data-bearing devices.
  • Skill in cycle counts and audits, spot checks, logical consumption tracking, and discrepancy reconciliation.
  • Experience receiving, staging, and safely moving equipment (rack and stack) between storage and data center hall environments.
  • Ability to demonstrate and assess safe physical handling, PPE use, and material-handling techniques, including lifting up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-88 media sanitization concepts (Clear / Purge / Destroy) and secure decommission of data-bearing devices.
  • Understanding of data center facility fundamentals - zones, power, cooling, physical security, and access control.
  • Familiarity with OSHA general industry guidelines and NFPA 70E electrical-safety awareness for data center environments.
  • Ability to deliver hands-on instruction and performance assessment using a Mobile Infrastructure Rack (MIR) and related lab equipment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current with data center logistics practices.

Preferred Skill Sets

  • Prior experience as a Data Center Logistics Technician, inventory/asset technician, or warehouse/receiving lead in a technology environment.
  • Experience training, onboarding, or mentoring entry-level technicians or new hires.
  • Identification-level knowledge of structured cabling, transceivers, and network hardware recognition.
  • Familiarity with ITSM/ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow) for logging logistics work.
  • Experience with vendor RMA portals and return logistics.
  • Logistics, supply-chain, warehousing, or military background.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical/industry experience).
  • Strong technical aptitude (Google Sheets/Excel, Slides/PowerPoint, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, etc.), project management, and organizational skills with detailed follow-through abilities.
  • Excellent written communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Solid understanding of business needs.
  • Strong evaluation and data management skills.
  • Prior knowledge or background in data center, logistics, or IT operations (if minimal, a desire and willingness to learn what’s needed) and a passion for technology is a plus.

Per Scholas offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, financial well-being, and overall quality of life!

Holidays & PTO: Full-Time Per Scholas team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off each year through a mix of holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time! All employees are eligible for Holiday pay upon hire (a total of 22 holidays annually, including a week off for Independence day and a week before the New Year). Full-Time Benefits Eligible employees also receive 80 Wellness Hours to use for Sick, Safe, or Personal reasons and accrue Vacation at a rate of 8 hours at the beginning of every month, supporting rest, recharge, and work-life balance. Vacation accruals increase with tenure. Part-time employees are afforded time off on a prorated basis and in accordance with local requirements. 

Comprehensive Medical Coverage: Benefit eligible employees can choose from multiple medical plans through Cigna or Kaiser Permanente (where available), with options to fit your needs. Eligible employees also have access to a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) that reimburses eligible out-of-pocket expenses, up to $4,000 for individuals and $8,000 for families.

Dental and Vision Insurance: Eligible employees can select from two dental plan options and a vision plan. Employees who waive medical coverage receive employer paid dental and vision premiums.

Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a current 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%, eligible employees are offered entry and full vesting after 90 days with the company.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Free, confidential, 24/7 access to counseling, legal support, and financial resources for employees and their household members

Parental Leave: Eligible employees are offered up to 6 weeks of 100% paid parental leave to support employees as they welcome a new child and bond with their family.
