Personalis is based in Fremont, California.\nSummary:\n\nWe are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain our Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). This role is a key contributor to our engineering team, taking ownership of feature development for both existing systems and new cloud-based platforms. You will work with senior engineers to tackle complex problems and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that power our laboratory operations in a regulated environment.\nOnsite: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday \nResponsibilities:\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain software systems and features supporting laboratory operations.\nDevelop and optimize backend services and APIs using Python and/or Java.\nImplement solutions using a variety of database technologies, including relational and graph databases.\nTake ownership of deploying and maintaining services in our AWS cloud environment.\nActively participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation to ensure quality and maintainability.\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in development and production environments.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.\nQualifications:\nB.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.\n5 years of professional software development experience.\nStrong proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python or Java.\nProven experience building and deploying applications on AWS.\nSolid experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and developing REST APIs.\nExperience with version control systems (e.g., Github, Bitbucket) and CI/CD concepts.\nExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex tasks.\nPreferred:\nExperience with web frameworks like Flask or FastAPI.\nFamiliarity with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js).\nExperience in the life sciences, healthcare, or another regulated industry.\nFamiliarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).\nExposure to graph databases or NoSQL technologies.\nWhat You’ll Gain\nOpportunity to take ownership of significant features and projects from design to deployment.\nDeepen your expertise in AWS services and cloud architecture.\nGain valuable experience working in a regulated life sciences environment.\nClear pathways for career growth into a senior engineering role through mentorship and impactful work.\nThe hiring range for this position is $150,000 to $175,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions.
