Reporting to the General Manager, this senior technical role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of leaching, solvent extraction, filtration, electrowinning, and associated process systems.\nThe Production Engineer provides technical leadership to operations personnel, drives process improvements, troubleshoots complex metallurgical and operational challenges, and supports the achievement of production, recovery, quality, cost, safety, and environmental objectives. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in hydrometallurgy, metal recovery, chemical processing, and industrial manufacturing environments.\nWhat You’ll Do\nProduction Management\nSupport and optimize daily plant operations to achieve production targets while maintaining product quality specifications.\nDevelop dashboards and monitor key process indicators, recovery metrics, throughput, reagent consumption, and equipment performance.\nIdentify production bottlenecks and implement technical solutions to improve plant efficiency.\nCollaborate with Operations, Maintenance, R&D, and HSE teams to ensure smooth plant performance.\nProvide technical decision-making support during abnormal operating conditions and plant upsets.\nProcess Optimization\nLead process improvement initiatives focused on metal recovery, throughput, yield, and operating cost reduction.\nAnalyze production data and develop strategies to improve process control and stability.\nConduct mass balance and metallurgical accounting assessments.\nOptimize hydrometallurgical unit operations including:Leaching\nSolid-liquid separation\nIon exchange\nElectrowinning\nRefining and product finishing\n\nEvaluate and implement new technologies and process innovations.\nTechnical Leadership\nServe as the senior process engineering resource for the facility.\nMentor and develop junior engineers, metallurgists, and operations personnel.\nDevelop operating procedures, process standards, and technical documentation.\nLead root-cause investigations and corrective action programs.\nProvide technical input into plant expansion, debottlenecking, and capital improvement projects.\nSafety and Environmental Stewardship\nPromote a strong safety culture through visible leadership and adherence to company standards.\nEnsure production activities comply with all environmental permits and regulatory requirements.\nParticipate in process hazard analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and management of change (MOC) processes.\nSupport incident investigations and implementation of preventive measures.\nDrive initiatives related to waste minimization, emissions reduction, and sustainability.\nProject Management\nLead and support capital and operational improvement projects from concept through commissioning.\nDevelop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical specifications.\nCoordinate contractors, vendors, and engineering service providers.\nManage plant trials, process testing, and commissioning activities.\nPerformance Monitoring and Reporting\nPrepare production and technical reports for management.\nMonitor key operational metrics including:Recovery efficiency\nThroughput\nReagent consumption\nEquipment utilization\nOperating costs\nEnvironmental performance\n\nPresent recommendations and improvement plans to site leadership.\nWhat You’ll Need\nBachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.\n15+ years of progressive experience in hydrometallurgy, chemical processing, mining, metal refining, or metal recycling operations.\nSignificant experience operating and optimizing industrial-scale hydrometallurgical processes.\nDemonstrated experience in production support within continuous processing facilities.\nProven track record of delivering operational improvements and recovery enhancements.\nExperience leading multidisciplinary teams and technical improvement initiatives.\nStrong knowledge of:Hydrometallurgical processing fundamentals\nPrecious metal, battery metal, base metal, or specialty metal recovery processes\nChemical process control systems\nMetallurgical accounting and mass balancing\nStatistical process analysis\nProcess simulation and optimization\nIndustrial water treatment systems\nWaste management and environmental compliance\nAsset reliability and operational excellence methodologies\n\nExperience with:Distributed Control leadership\nWorking Hours & Environment\nThis is a full-time, on-siterole at pH7 Technologies' facility in South Burnaby, BC, reporting to the General Manager.
