Software Engineer

At Phantasma Labs, we're building AI-powered production scheduling software for manufacturers. Production scheduling is a complex problem: priorities change, machines go down, new orders come in and planners constantly need to adapt. Many factories still rely heavily on manual planning to manage this complexity.

We approach this differently. Our technology combines reinforcement learning with Digital Twin environments to train AI agents in simulation, allowing manufacturers to create and optimize production schedules without relying on large historical datasets.

We're already working with manufacturers across Europe, the US and Japan and partner with ERP and MES providers to bring our technology into real production environments. We're a small, international team based in Berlin with a flexible remote setup, and there's still a lot to build as we continue developing the product and bringing it to more manufacturers.

Tasks

As a Software Engineer at Phantasma, you'll work on the software that brings our AI-powered production scheduling technology into real factory environments. You'll build and maintain our backend systems, connect AiPS to customer environments and contribute across APIs, infrastructure and frontend where needed.

You'll be part of our backend team and work closely with our ML team and customers. It's a hands-on role with real ownership, from turning customer requirements into production-ready features to shipping reliably and keeping systems stable across staging and production.

• Develop production-ready backend code in Rust
• Develop unit tests and integration tests to keep quality high as we ship fast
• Debug and resolve issues in staging and production
• Interface with customer systems (ERP/MES and surrounding tools)
• Convert and map structured and semi-structured customer data into our internal formats
• Join customer calls, gather requirements, and translate them into robust implementations
• Contribute to API design and overall system architecture
• Build and maintain frontend features in React / TypeScript
• Deploy and operate services on Kubernetes cloud infrastructure
• Support MLOps workflows in partnership with the ML team

Requirements

Must haves

• Strong willingness to learn and take ownership
• Flexibility to grow with the role as responsibilities evolve
• A collaborative spirit and comfort working in a flat hierarchy
• Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
• Solid ability to manage time, tasks, and project priorities independently

Nice to haves

• 1+ year of Rust experience (professional, academic, or hobby projects)
• Experience building frontends, ideally using React
• DevOps experience (e.g. Kubernetes, Ansible)
• Experience with joining calls and interacting with customers
• Experience in manufacturing environments or industrial software
