This is a hands-on role focused on executing governance activities, supporting metadata cataloging, and applying practical data quality controls. Just as important, this person will act as a communicator and facilitator—helping form working groups, align business and technical teams, and coach client staff on how to take ownership as data stewards.\nCore Responsibilities\nSupport the design of tailored data governance programs, with recommendations on processes, team structure, decision rights and boundaries.\n\nDesign policies and controls for effective data governance execution.\n\nBring a modern perspective on the design and rollout of data governance.\n\nCommunicate governance concepts in clear business language; prepare presentations, training materials, and adoption guides.\n\nFacilitate data governance working groups to drive alignment between business and technology stakeholders.\n\nExecute metadata management activities such as cataloging, lineage capture, and stewardship workflows.\n\nPartner with business teams to draft and maintain business rules, definitions, and data quality controls. \n\nApply data quality processes such as profiling, monitoring, and issue management, ensuring rules are practical and adopted.\n\nSupport the installation, configuration, rollout and adoption of governance/metadata tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Purview).\n\nCoach client staff on data stewardship practices—showing them how to govern their data effectively and sustainably.\n\nProvide input on access controls, privacy, and compliance with regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)\n\nCollaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business owners to embed governance into daily workflows, platform pipelines, modeling practices, and observability.\n\nMetadata Tools & Platform Enablement\n\nInstall and configure metadata/catalog tools in client environments.\n\nBuild and curate catalogs, including ingestion of technical metadata, business glossaries, and lineage.\n\nDefine user personas and design role-appropriate experiences (data stewards, data owners, analysts, engineers).\n\nTailor tool UX (workflows, dashboards, search optimization) to improve usability and adoption.\n\nRequired Qualifications\n5+ years of experience in data governance, metadata management, and MDM roles.\n\nHands-on experience with MDM tools (Semarchy, Profisee, Informatica, or equivalent).\n\nExposure to data quality tools and processes (Talend, Ataccama, or equivalent).\n\nStrong communication skills: able to facilitate workshops, write clear business documentation, and present to mixed audiences.\n\nDemonstrated ability to define and obtain alignment for definition, business rules and data quality controls.\n\nFamiliarity with governance operating models and stewardship practices.\n\nKnowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and how governance practices support compliance\n\nBachelor’s degree in Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience)\n\nWillingness to travel up to 50% per month (10 of 20 business days) when required by our clients\n\nPreferred Skills\nExperience leading or supporting data governance working groups or stewardship councils.\n\nKnowledge of data access provisioning, integration patterns, or lineage capture.\n\nExperience building adoption materials, training guides, or playbooks for governance programs.\n\nPrior client-facing consulting experience.\n\nphData celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
