This role is in office 5 days a week in San Francisco.\nYour day to day:\nDesign, build, and operate highly reliable cloud infrastructure that powers real-time voice AI systems with extremely low latency and high availability.\n\nOwn Kubernetes clusters end-to-end: provisioning, scaling, upgrades, networking, and debugging production incidents under real customer load.\n\nBuild, maintain, and evolve infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation to ensure repeatable, auditable, and secure environments across staging and production.\n\nCreate and operate CI/CD pipelines that enable fast, safe iteration across multiple microservices and teams.\n\nDesign and maintain observability systems (metrics, logs, traces, alerting) to detect failures early and rapidly diagnose production issues.\n\nPartner with backend engineers to translate application requirements into scalable, secure infrastructure and clean deployment workflows.\n\nHarden systems through strong security practices including IAM, secrets management, network isolation, and least-privilege access controls.\n\nOptimize cloud performance and costs while maintaining reliability, developer velocity, and customer experience.\n\nImplement and operate GitOps-driven deployment workflows, using Git as the source of truth for infrastructure and application state, enabling safe, auditable, and automated rollouts.\n\nLead incident response: investigate outages, coordinate fixes, write postmortems, and drive systemic reliability improvements.\n\nContinuously improve resilience through load testing, chaos testing, capacity planning, and proactive infrastructure upgrades.\n\nQualifications:\n5+ years as a DevOps engineer\n\nExperience writing async web apps using fast api in Python\n\nBuilder of APIs, Clouds, CI/CD pipelines\n\nExperience with IaC, AWS, Database Management at scale\n\nUnderstanding of good architecture, security practices\n\nStrong technical and communication skills\n\nExtensive experience with AWS & Kubernetes\n\nOur Software Stack:\nBackend: Python, microservices, async programming\n\nCloud & Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Redis, ArgoCD, GitOps\n\nDatabases: Firebase, Supabase (PostgreSQL)\n\nFrontend: Next.js\n\nObservability & Monitoring: Datadog, logging, metrics, tracing\n\nTelephony & Voice AI: SIP, voice APIs, real-time call handling\n\nOther tools & practices: CI/CD, automated testing, resilient architecture\n\nWhy Join Phonely?\nWe’re super cool.
