We are looking for strong backend engineers with practical experience integrating applications, services and enterprise systems.\nYou should be comfortable building APIs, connecting systems, handling data and asynchronous workflows, and taking changes through testing and deployment. We welcome different technology backgrounds and value engineering fundamentals, ownership and learning ability.\nWhat you will do\nDesign, build and maintain backend services, APIs and business logic.\nIntegrate internal applications, third-party platforms and enterprise systems through APIs, webhooks, messaging and background jobs.\nBuild reusable connectors and adapters with authentication, data mapping, validation and error handling.\nImplement reliable workflows with timeouts, retries, idempotency, failure recovery and reconciliation.\nWork with databases, caching, application permissions and asynchronous processing.\nUnderstand existing codebases, trace dependencies and make reliable changes across services.\nWrite automated tests, verify API contracts and troubleshoot failures across connected systems.\nContribute to containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, AWS deployments and production monitoring.\nUse AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while remaining accountable for correctness and quality.\nCore requirements\nBackend programming: Strong skills in at least one language, such as Python, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript or Go, with hands-on experience developing backend services and REST APIs. \nIntegration engineering: Experience connecting applications or systems, including authentication, request/response mapping, validation and handling integration failures. \nObject-oriented programming: Good working understanding of abstraction, encapsulation, interfaces and composition, and the ability to structure modular, maintainable code. \nAPI fundamentals: Understanding of HTTP, JSON, API contracts, status codes, pagination and versioning. \nDatabases: Practical experience with SQL, relational databases, schema design and transactions. \nSecurity: Understanding of authentication, authorisation, tokens, service credentials and application permissions. \nEngineering practices: Experience with Git, code reviews, automated testing and systematic debugging, along with exposure to CI/CD and application deployment. \nAgentic AI and MCP familiarity: Basic understanding of agents, tool calling and Model Context Protocol, including how agents interact with APIs and backend systems. Exposure through professional work, personal projects or experimentation is welcome. \nOwnership and judgment: Ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases, investigate issues across service boundaries, communicate clearly and make timely decisions. \nUseful experience you do not need all of these\nBackend frameworks and runtimes: FastAPI, Django, Node.js or equivalents. \nEnterprise integrations: CRM, ERP, identity providers, billing, order management, inventory systems or other business platforms. \nIntegration patterns: Webhooks, event-driven processing, scheduled synchronisation, batch integrations and workflow orchestration. \nMessaging: Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS, EventBridge or equivalent technologies. \nData: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB, query optimisation and database migrations. \nAWS: ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS, IAM, Secrets Manager and CloudWatch. Relevant Azure or GCP experience is also welcome. \nContainers and orchestration: Working understanding of Docker and Kubernetes, including containerising applications, configuration and deployment troubleshooting. \nTesting tools and practices: Familiarity with Robot Framework, Playwright and BDD scenarios written in Gherkin. Experience with API, integration and end-to-end testing across connected services. \nGitLab and CI/CD: Familiarity with GitLab repositories, merge requests and pipelines for automated builds, tests and deployments. Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar tools is also relevant. \nInfrastructure as code: Basic understanding of Terraform, including reading and modifying existing configurations and reviewing infrastructure plans. \nSecurity and reliability: OAuth2/OIDC, JWT validation, RBAC, least-privilege access, audit logging, monitoring, tracing and production troubleshooting. \nAI integrations: Model APIs, MCP servers/clients, agent frameworks and workflows. \nAI-assisted / agentic coding: Familiarity with coding assistants or coding agents for implementation, testing, debugging or exploring codebases is helpful, but not mandatory Candidates should be willing to learn these tools and critically review and validate generated code. \nHow we work\nOur engineers own changes from understanding requirements through implementation, testing and deployment. You will work across existing services and larger codebases, break complex tasks into manageable changes, and use shared components and templates.\nWe use AI-assisted development tools to move faster. Engineers are expected to understand their changes, challenge generated suggestions and verify behaviour through meaningful tests and reviews. Prior experience with these coding tools is not a condition of selection.\nWho will do well here\nEngineers who enjoy connecting systems, understanding how they work and investigating what happens when they fail. You should be able to explain what you built, the decisions you made, how you handled failures and how you verified the result.\n Strong backend and integration engineering skills are the priority. Deep production experience in agentic AI or expertise in every listed technology is not required.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5955,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Machine Learning","Low-Code & No-Code Platforms"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-12T09:53:43Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":19,"reasons":["seen:0","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-13T05:38:54Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/physarum-full-stack-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/physarum-full-stack-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-13T05:38:54Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":8602,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-14T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":2349},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=2349"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fphysarum-full-stack-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fphysarum-full-stack-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fphysarum-full-stack-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/physarum-full-stack-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fphysarum-full-stack-engineer"}]}
