Pi turns that context into institutional security memory, helping teams triage faster, remediate in context, prevent repeat vulnerability classes, and embed security guardrails where engineering work already happens. We are building for a future where security is not a blocker at the end of the development process. It is part of how software gets designed, reviewed, shipped, and improved.\nPi was recognized on Fast Company's 2026Next Big Things in Tech list and covered byForbes!\nAbout the Role\nWe're hiring our first Head of Engineering to help lead the technical build-out of Pi's platform at a pivotal, early stage. You'll report directly to our CEO/co-founder and work shoulder-to-shoulder with a small, high-caliber team (fewer than 10 engineers today) as we scale the org. This is a hands-on leadership role: part of the week you'll be writing and reviewing code and making architectural calls, and part of the week you'll be hiring, mentoring, and shaping how the engineering team works as it grows.\nThis role is based in our San Francisco office, five days a week. We build in person, alongside the founding team, and that is a deliberate choice.\nWhat You'll Do\nOwn execution of the engineering roadmap end to end, working closely with the CEO/co-founder on product and technical strategy.\n\nStay hands-on - writing code, reviewing PRs, and making architecture and design decisions alongside the team, especially in the platform's core systems (codebase ingestion, root-cause analysis, remediation generation, and the Sloane assistant).\n\nRecruit, hire, and onboard Pi's next engineers, and put in place the processes, standards, and culture that let a small team move fast without breaking things.\n\nSet technical direction across the stack - backend services, AI/ML pipelines, integrations with customer developer workflows (source control, CI/CD, issue trackers) - balancing speed with the reliability and trust our security customers require.\n\nPartner cross-functionally with founders on customer-facing technical conversations, including with security and engineering leaders at our customers.\n\nBuild engineering practices (testing, code review, on-call, incident response) that scale as the team and customer base grow, without over-engineering for a startup's current stage.\n\nChampion security and quality in our own engineering practices - as a security company, how we build has to hold up to scrutiny.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nProven experience as a hands-on engineering leader (e.g., Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, or Staff/Principal Engineer moving into leadership) at an early- or growth-stage startup, ideally having helped scale a team from single digits.\n\nStrong full-stack or backend engineering background, with the technical depth to be a real contributor, not just a manager - you should be comfortable in the codebase, not just in planning docs.\n\nExperience building and shipping complex, data-intensive, or AI/ML-driven products, ideally involving large codebases, static/dynamic analysis, or developer tooling.\n\nA track record of hiring and developing strong engineers, and of building engineering culture and process from a small base.\n\nComfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment, with the judgment to know when to move fast and when to slow down (especially given the security-critical nature of the product).\n\nExcellent communication skills - you'll work closely with founders, customers, and a growing team, often translating between technical and business context.\n\nWillingness and desire to work onsite in San Francisco full-time.\n\nNice to Have\nBackground in application security, product security, vulnerability management, or a related security domain.\n\nExperience with developer-tooling integrations (GitHub/GitLab, CI/CD systems, IDE plugins) or with LLM/agentic systems in production.\n\nExperience at a security-focused company or working closely with security teams as customers.\n\nPrior experience as an early engineering hire or founding engineer.\n\nWhy Pi\nPi is backed by a $35 million Series A led by Third Point Ventures and Brightmind Partners, with support from CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz and Armis founders Yevgeny Dibrov and Nadir Izrael. Leading AI companies and enterprise innovators already rely on Pi, including xAI, Notion, Navan, Lemonade, and Teramind, and it's available through AWS Marketplace and a strategic partnership with Bugcrowd.\nOur founders have lived inside this problem. Guy Arazi was a security researcher at Microsoft, and Yoni Ramon led offensive security work at Tesla. You'll work closely with both.\nWe're early enough that every hire shapes the product, the team, and how we work. You'll build alongside a humble, passionate, ambitious, and genuinely fun team that cares deeply about what we're building and about our customers.\nWe hire for four things, and we work this way every day:\nSpeed. Velocity over polish. Something impactful this week beats a perfect plan for next quarter.\n\nDepth. You go past the point of requirement. That is usually where the interesting part starts anyway.\n\nCuriosity. The people who do best here ask the thing everyone assumed was already answered.\n\nAmbition. We take on assumptions this industry accepts as given, and disprove them.\n\nCompensation & Benefits\nThe base salary range for this role in San Francisco is $245,000 - $339,000 per year. This is our good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay at hire. Where an offer lands depends on experience, skills, and level. Base salary is one part of total compensation, which also includes equity.\nMeaningful equity in Pi.Security\n\nMedical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family, starting the 1st of the month after you join.\n\nFlexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for health and dependent care\n\nCommuter benefits\n\nUnlimited PTO\n\n401(k)\n\nHealth and wellness stipend\n\nLunch allowance on in-office days\n\nEqual Opportunity\nPi.Security is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6615,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Unlimited PTO"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Application Security","DevSecOps"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-28T17:25:23Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":81,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.813,"p_room":1,"age_days":28,"expected_fill_days":82,"reasons":["conf:1","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-14T06:34:16Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":339000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/pi-head-of-engineering","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/pi-head-of-engineering.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-14T13:38:22Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":16798,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-15T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1837564},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1837564"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fpi-head-of-engineering"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fpi-head-of-engineering"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fpi-head-of-engineering"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/pi-head-of-engineering\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fpi-head-of-engineering"}]}
