We are a global company headquartered in New York, with offices in Chicago, London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo.\nPurpose of the role:\n\nThe Platform Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining the security, stability, and performance of Pico’s internal infrastructure and client trading platforms. The role focuses on supporting mission-critical trading environments, including the investigation and resolution of operating system, platform, and hardware issues that impact client trading services.\nThis is a customer-facing role with direct responsibility for delivering high-quality operational support to Pico’s trading clients. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, internal teams, vendors, and exchanges to ensure trading systems remain reliable, secure, and performant, meeting agreed service levels and operational expectations.\nThe ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation in Red Hat Enterprise Linux and experience supporting platforms running on virtualisation technologies such as KVM, VMware ESXi, and Hyper-V. Hands-on experience with HPE and Dell server hardware, along with automation and scripting using Bash and Ansible, is essential. Familiarity with ITIL (or equivalent) operational frameworks, including incident, problem, and change management, is required to support controlled, auditable operations in a financial services environment. The role also requires supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory across client environments.\nResponsibilities and duties(including but not limited to)\nProvide operational support across Pico’s infrastructure and platform services, including client trading environments, to ensure systems run at optimal performance and consistently meet defined KPIs and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).\nEnsure the stability, availability, and reliability of platform services in a 24x7 production trading environment.\nAct as second-line support, performing technical investigation, triage, and expert-level troubleshooting of platform and client systems.\nTake end-to-end ownership of incidents and service requests logged in the Pico ticketing system through to resolution.\nPerform root cause analysis of platform incidents and contribute to permanent fixes and preventative improvements.\nDeliver a high standard of operational service and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external customers.\nInterface with vendors, market participants, and financial exchanges to support platform operations and resolve technical issues.\nRemotely coordinate and validate on-site hardware installations, replacements, and repairs.\nExecute preventative maintenance activities, including server operating system patching and firmware upgrades, to maintain platform security and reliability.\nDevelop and maintain automation using scripting and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible) to support platform deployment, configuration, and ongoing maintenance.\nCreate and maintain platform documentation, including system diagrams, operational runbooks, flowcharts, and scheduled operational reports.\nConduct daily platform health checks, capacity reviews, and infrastructure monitoring, reporting any risks or anomalies.\nContribute to continuous improvement of platform operations processes, tooling, and reliability.\n\nEducation, Skills, and background(incl. Education and Experience Requirements)\nDegree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.\n4-8 years of experience working in a production operational environment supporting critical infrastructure.\nA minimum of 4 years’ hands-on experience supporting physical and virtual server platforms.\nExperience supporting platforms within the financial services or trading industry is strongly preferred.\nProven experience administering Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems.\nHands-on experience with systems management tools, including Red Hat Satellite.\nExperience configuring, maintaining, and operating server and infrastructure monitoring solutions.\nStrong experience working with bare-metal server deployments at scale.\nPractical experience with HPE and Dell server hardware and associated management tools.\nProficient in scripting and automation using Bash, Ansible, and Python.\nSolid understanding of server performance and capacity monitoring, including CPU utilisation, memory contention, disk usage, and network I/O.\nStrong server-side networking knowledge, including IP routing, TCP/IP, multicast, DNS, NTP, and PTP.\nExcellent communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to work directly with clients in a high-pressure operational environment.\nThis role will be part of a shift pattern are as follows:\nEMEA\nWorking days\n\nWeds-Sun\n\nWorking Hours\n\n9hr shift, including 1 hr break, within 08:00 - 18:00 GMT/BST coverage window\n\nShift start and end time will change in IST when UK is observing daylight savings\n\nWorking Arrangements \nThis is a Hybrid position with [weekly time in the office with the flexibility of working from home]. Though travel may be requiredfrom time to time, it is not expected to be regular or frequent.
