The Mechanical Technician is responsible for ensuring the plant's mechanical system and its auxiliaries are performing in their optimum operating capacity by performing preventive maintenance activities, corrective maintenance, and initiating plant performance improvements.

The Mechanical Technician contributes a critical role in the plant by ensuring all equipment in the plant is reliable, available and safe to use at all times.

The Mechanical Technician must have some form expertise with the following major equipment:

  • Steam Boilers
  • Compressed Dry Air Systems
  • Diesel Generators
  • Water Distribution Systems
  • Pumps Maintenance
  • Ammonia Refrigeration
  • Conveyor Systems
  • Fire Protection Systems
  • Wastewater Treatment Systems

The Mechanical Technician must have some form of familiarization with the following:

  • Heavy Equipment
  • Air Conditioning Units
  • General Meat Processing & Manufacturing Equipment
  • Manufacturing
  • GMP and HACCP

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance activities on plant equipment and machinery ensuring the efficient running and prolong service life of the machines and equipment.

  • Conducts problem solving activities on causes and corrective measures for mechanical variances. Solicits the advice of the Maintenance Supervisor for problems that remain unsolved.

  • Conducts routine inspection of machinery and equipment operating parameters as prescribed, initiates corrective measures on any abnormality.

  • Performs scheduled lubrication works on plant equipment and machineries.

  • Designs and monitors any mechanical fabrication and installation works.

  • Maintains spare parts inventory and prepares a list of required parts to be ordered.

  • Analyzes spare parts received prior to storage ensuring that these are of good quality and have correct specifications.

  • Ensures that all accomplished work orders and other records are documented, up to date, and accurate.

  • Attend emergency service requests and night calls as needed.

  • Ensures the plant is 5S compliant. Assists in leading 5S improvement

  • Assists in supervision of contractors in performance of contracted works ensuring quality workmanship and specification.

  • Performs and leads the start-up of plant equipment.

  • Performs other related works in carrying out the objective of his position and as may be assigned by immediate superior.

  • Ensures all important matters are turned over to incoming shift engineer

  • Monitors and analyzes fuel consumption to detect any abnormality in regular fuel consumption based on plant output.

  • Monitors and analyzes water consumption to detect any abnormality in regular water consumption based on plant output.

  • Monitors and analyzes power consumption to detect any abnormality in regular power consumption based on plant output.

  • Supports in ensuring the repair and maintenance cost is within the monthly budget.

  • Initiates and spearheads (once approved) any plant innovations and improvement to help minimize operating cost.

Food Safety:

  • Complies with quality, health and food safety policy, standards and regulations of the company.

  • Responsible for reporting problems related to GMP, HACCP, quality management system to identified authorities.

Other Tasks:

  • Actively participate in all company programs and activities under quality improvement, safety & security, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, risk management etc.

  • Performs other tasks as may be assigned by the team leader.

Education:

  • Mechanical engineering Graduate

Experience:

  • With at least 5 year experience working on mechanical equipment maintenance

Licenses:

  • License mechanical engineer/ certified plant mechanic is an advantage but not required
