The successful candidate will lead vessel and marine operations, optimise container equipment management, coordinate inland logistics, strengthen vendor performance, and drive operational efficiency across PIL Ghana’s activities.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned shipping and logistics professional who can lead diverse teams, manage complex operational challenges, control costs, and deliver measurable improvements in service reliability and business performance.\n\nJob Summary\n\nThe Operations & Logistics Manager will oversee and coordinate marine operations, container equipment control, intermodal logistics, service provider management, and operational reporting in Ghana.\n\nThe role requires close collaboration with vessel operators, port authorities, terminal operators, shipping agents, depots, transport providers, customers, and internal teams to ensure smooth cargo movement and dependable service delivery.\n\nThe successful candidate will translate operational priorities into measurable results by improving vessel schedule reliability, optimising equipment utilisation, managing vendor performance, controlling costs, and developing a high-performing operations team.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n1. Vessel and Marine Operations\n\nLead vessel operations and coordinate berthing arrangements to support efficient port calls and reliable shipping schedules in Tema.\n\nWork closely with vessels, terminal operators, port authorities, shipping agents, and operational partners to facilitate smooth vessel arrivals, departures, and cargo handling.\n\nMonitor vessel schedules, operational performance, port productivity, and turnaround times to identify and address delays.\n\nCoordinate operational planning and resolve day-to-day disruptions that could affect service reliability.\n\nIdentify opportunities to reduce vessel waiting time, improve port efficiency, and minimise avoidable operational costs.\n\nMaintain effective communication with relevant stakeholders and provide timely updates on vessel movements and operational exceptions.\n\nReview marine performance indicators and implement corrective actions to improve operational outcomes.\n\n2. Container Equipment Management\n\nMaintain clear visibility of container movements across import, export, depot, and other relevant operational activities.\n\nMonitor container availability, utilisation, dwell time, and turnaround time to support efficient equipment allocation.\n\nOptimise empty container positioning and coordinate timely repositioning to meet operational and customer requirements.\n\nWork with depots, terminals, transport providers, and internal teams to resolve equipment shortages, surpluses, and movement delays.\n\nMonitor equipment performance against Principal-defined key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvement measures where necessary.\n\nIdentify equipment imbalances and develop practical solutions to improve availability while controlling storage, handling, and repositioning costs.\n\nMaintain accurate equipment records and provide timely reports on utilisation, availability, and outstanding movements.\n\n3. Logistics and Intermodal Operations\n\nOversee inland transportation, trucking arrangements, depot coordination, and intermodal logistics activities.\n\nBuild and maintain effective partnerships with inland container depots (ICDs), container freight stations (CFSs), hauliers, transport operators, and other service providers.\n\nCoordinate cargo and container movements to ensure timely, reliable, and cost-effective delivery.\n\nMonitor logistics performance and identify opportunities to improve transit times, reduce unnecessary handling, and control transportation costs.\n\nResolve operational bottlenecks affecting cargo movement, equipment availability, and customer service.\n\nEvaluate alternative logistics arrangements and intermodal solutions that support business growth and operational efficiency.\n\nEnsure that logistics activities meet customer expectations, contractual requirements, and applicable operational standards.\n\n4. Vendor and Contract Performance Management\n\nMonitor service providers against agreed service levels, contractual obligations, quality standards, and cost expectations.\n\nCoordinate procurement activities for inland haulage (IHI) rates and other relevant logistics services in line with company procedures.\n\nMaintain accurate and up-to-date logistics management system (LMS) records, including rates, vendor information, and operational data.\n\nReview vendor performance trends and address recurring service gaps, delays, and cost variances.\n\nSupport vendor selection, rate negotiations, contract reviews, and service performance evaluations.\n\nIdentify opportunities to improve commercial terms and reduce operating costs without compromising service quality or safety.\n\nBuild productive relationships with vendors and hold service providers accountable for agreed deliverables.\n\n5. Operational Controls, Reporting, and Cost Management\n\nEnsure accurate and timely operational reporting across marine, equipment, and logistics activities.\n\nReview and validate operational invoices, service charges, and vendor costs against approved rates, contracts, and supporting documentation.\n\nMonitor claims, investigate discrepancies, and coordinate appropriate follow-up actions with relevant stakeholders.\n\nTrack operational KPIs, identify performance gaps, and recommend corrective measures.\n\nPrepare management reports that provide clear visibility into operational performance, cost trends, risks, and service exceptions.\n\nStrengthen operational controls and documentation practices to support compliance, financial accountability, and effective decision-making.\n\nIdentify opportunities to reduce operating expenses, improve productivity, and enhance resource utilisation.\n\nUse operational data and performance trends to support planning, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives.\n\n6. Leadership and Team Development\n\nLead, coach, and develop the operations and logistics team to achieve departmental objectives.\n\nEstablish clear performance expectations, assign responsibilities, and monitor individual and team results.\n\nBuild a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.\n\nProvide guidance and support to team members when resolving complex operational challenges.\n\nIdentify training needs and strengthen employees’ technical, commercial, and operational capabilities.\n\nEncourage cross-functional collaboration between marine operations, equipment control, logistics, finance, procurement, and customer service teams.\n\nEnsure that staffing and operational resources support PIL Ghana’s business priorities.\n\nPromote professional conduct, effective communication, and consistent adherence to company policies and procedures.\n\nRequired Qualifications and Experience\n\nEducational Requirements\n\nA bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Shipping Management, Business Administration, or a related field.\n\nA relevant postgraduate qualification or professional certification in logistics, shipping, supply chain management, or operations management will be an advantage.\n\nProfessional Experience\n\n8–10 years of relevant professional experience in shipping, logistics, marine operations, or operations management.\n\nStrong experience in containerized shipping operations, preferably within an international shipping line or a related maritime organisation.\n\nDemonstrated experience coordinating vessel operations, port activities, and shipping schedules.\n\nProven knowledge of container equipment control, empty container management, depot operations, and intermodal logistics.\n\nExperience managing transport providers, logistics vendors, service contracts, and commercial rates.\n\nDemonstrated ability to monitor operating costs, improve service performance, and deliver measurable operational efficiencies.\n\nExperience preparing operational reports, analysing KPIs, validating invoices, and monitoring claims.\n\nProven leadership experience, including
