Join our team and grow with us! \nPitchBook's Lead Software Development Engineer on the Frontier Data Platform team is a senior technical leader and prolific individual contributor. You will design, build, and own the systems that ingest, correlate, enrich, and surface billions of records across PitchBook's customer-facing products - from raw scraped data through to search-ready, AI-augmented intelligence. \nThis is a hands-on role. You will write production code every day, prototype rapidly when the problem demands it, and lead by example rather than by delegation. You will be the technical north star for a small, high-ownership engineering team - setting the bar for design quality, system thinking, and engineering craft. \nPrimary Job Responsibilities:\nManage, mentor, and lead a small team of software engineers\nEvangelize better technical practices and continually raise the bar for technical excellence across the company\nWrite production-grade backend code daily - services, pipelines, and APIs - from prototype to ship \nLead system design for new platform capabilities: ingestion pipelines, entity resolution, enrichment workflows, and search indexing strategies \nOwn the technical quality of the team's output: code review, architecture decisions, performance, reliability, and observability \nAssess tradeoffs quickly and pivot when needed - whether that's a proof-of-concept in a day or a multi-week pipeline refactor \nCollaborate directly with the EM, product, and partner teams on requirements and technical direction \nMentor engineers on the team through code, design discussions, and direct pairing\nIdentify and drive down technical debt that meaningfully limits velocity or reliability \nOwn services and applications and related infrastructure, and be ultimately responsible for the services' quality, stability, reliability, and performance in production \nOwn estimations of features and releases in the team and can explain them to peer functions and stakeholders \nResponsible for optimal engineering resources allocation and work distribution within the Team to meet the sprint and release goals \nEnsure that releases & features meet PitchBook Engineering (Architecture, Quality, Reliability, etc.) standards and guidelines \nUse cloud technology to create robust and scalable software systems \nHelp establish best practices around software development, microservices, and DevOps \nSupport the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors \nParticipate in various company initiatives and projects as requested \nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems \n7+ years of backend software engineering, in Java on production systems at scale \n5+ years of cloud infrastructure experience (GCP preferred, AWS acceptable) \nMust be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future\nMust be able to work onsite in our Seattle office\nPreferred Qualifications:\nTrack record of technical leadership in a small, high-ownership team - without needing a large org around you to get things done\nDeep experience with distributed data pipelines and streaming systems - Kafka or equivalent \nStrong hands-on experience with Elasticsearch or comparable search/indexing platforms \nSolid PostgreSQL or relational DB expertise at meaningful data volumes \nExperience with large-scale data ingestion, transformation, or enrichment systems - entity resolution, deduplication, or data quality pipelines are a strong plus \nContainerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in production\nStrong system design instincts: distributed systems, data modeling, API design, and fault tolerance\nExperienced and enthusiastic about using AI for productivity and efficiency (GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent) \nSolid object-oriented design experience including, Domain Driven Design methodology, experience working with service-oriented architectures and Distributed Systems, and an undying belief in the power of testing, CI/CD, and Agile\nBenefits + Compensation at PitchBook:\nPhysical Health\nComprehensive health benefits\nAdditional medical wellness incentives\nSTD, LTD, AD&D, and life insurance\nEmotional Health\nPaid sabbatical program after four years\nPaid family and paternity leave\nAnnual educational stipend\nAbility to apply for tuition reimbursement\nCFA exam stipend\nRobust training programs on industry and soft skills\nEmployee assistance program\nGenerous allotment of vacation days, sick days, and volunteer days\nSocial Health \nMatching gifts program\nEmployee resource groups\nSubsidized emergency childcare\nDependent Care FSA\nCompany-wide events\nEmployee referral bonus program\nQuarterly team building events\nFinancial Health \n401k match\nShared ownership employee stock program\nMonthly transportation stipend\n*Please be aware the above PitchBook benefit and perk offerings are subject to corresponding plan and policy documents and may change during the course of your employment.\nCompensation\nAnnual base salary: $190,000-$230,000\nTarget annual bonus percentage: 15%\nWorking Conditions:\nAt the heart of our company is a belief in the power of in-person collaboration. Being together in the office fuels our creativity, strengthens our connections, and drives the innovation that sets us apart. Our culture is built on spontaneous moments-those hallway conversations, whiteboard brainstorms, and shared celebrations in each of our global offices-that simply can’t be replicated remotely. This role is expected to be in the office 5 days a week.\nThe job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.\nWe are excited to get to know you and your background. Concerned that you might not meet every requirement? We encourage you to still apply as you might be the right candidate for the role or other roles at PitchBook.\n#LI-DT1","description_format":"text","description_chars":7749,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":7,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Life insurance"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Data Providers & Datasets","Financial Data & Market Intelligence"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-12T10:26:35Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 11","filings_12m":11,"filings_prev_12m":4,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":124318,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-29T16:27:21+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)","US Department of Labor: PERM disclosure data (green cards)"],"filings_for_role_12m":2}],"liveness":{"score":14,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.483,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":84,"expected_fill_days":36,"reasons":["conf:0","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-11-04T06:34:25Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":190000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/pitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/pitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-05T01:04:58Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1186,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-06T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":686187},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=686187"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fpitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fpitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fpitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/pitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fpitchbookdata-lead-software-development-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":811361}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"pitchbookdata.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":811361},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
