The primary function of the Maintenance Technician is to manage general repairs and other maintenance needs for Housing & Residence Life buildings, equipment and other property and may perform lead worker duties over temporary staff including students.\nDuties and Responsibilities of Position\n45% Environmental Upkeep and Prevention\nMonitor and maintain accurate records of assessments, reports, and follow-up actions related to healthy environment management.\nConduct regular inspections of residential facilities to identify early signs of mildew, mold, or moisture-related concerns.\nImplement preventive measures and maintenance strategies to reduce humidity and ensure proper ventilation in living and common spaces.\nCoordinate timely cleaning, remediation, or professional treatment of affected areas to maintain a safe and healthy environment.\nMaintain Synexis air purifier units.\n20% Environmental Maintenance & Education\nProvide information to residents and staff on moisture prevention practices and reporting procedures.\nCollaborate with Housing Leadership and safety teams to ensure compliance with health and environmental standards and guidelines. \nClean/replace filters, adjust and calibrate pumps, thermostats, and valves.\n20% Electrical\nInstall new electrical systems and components and repair existing equipment including light switches, outlets, circuit breakers, fuses, fixtures, motors, and generators\nMay perform regular examinations of fire and smoke alarms to ensure equipment remains in working order\nMaintain and repair Honeywell and Simplex fire alarm systems\n5% Carpentry\nPerform basic and advanced carpentry tasks as needed\nRepair and replace ceiling and floor tiles\nUse both rough and finish carpentry tools\nCarry out carpentry duties including the repair of tables, chairs, benches and counters.\n5% Plumbing\nPerform maintenance, repair, and replacement of hot and cold-water lines, low pressure steam lines, gas, air, drain lines, hot/chilled water lines, and associated fixtures and components.\nHelp maintain a working stock of parts and uses standard pluming tool\n5% Miscellaneous maintenance\nPerform limited locksmith tasks i.e. cleaning repair, and replacement of locks and cuts and stamps I.D. number on replacement keys\nMaintain shop equipment, tools, and materials\nPerform limited maintenance of cabinetry and masonry\nRepair gutters, roofs, and flashing by sealing cracks and other leaks as necessary\nPerform any other related duties as required or assigned\nEducation and Experience -\nRequired at Hire and Preferred Required Education and Experience at Hire\nHigh school diploma.\nThree years of related construction or carpentry work.\nScreening Services (Background Checks): Your employment with Pittsburg State University is contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check and sex offender check.\nJob Type: University Support Staff\nAppointment Duration: 12 months\nWork Schedule: Full Time - Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.\nSalary Range: grade 6, $17.66 - $23.82 hourly\nApplication Documents Required*:\nResume \nNames and Contact Details for Three (3) Professional References\n\n*Consolidate documents into a maximum of 2 to upload.\nOpen Until Filled with a first review date of May 1, 2026.\nVisa Sponsorship is not available for this position\nSearch Committee Chair: Tracy Holzem, \nPSU will only accept applications submitted through this process.\nPittsburg State University is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
