Plane is an open-source, AI-native project and knowledge management platform designed as a modern alternative to tools like Jira and Linear.

About Plane

Plane’s mission is to build the infrastructure the world’s work runs on. We want teams to move faster without losing context, and organizations to retain the flexibility and control they need. Our team is building that work infrastructure as an open, adaptable platform for projects, knowledge, and requests-simple enough for any team to adopt and dependable enough for organizations to build on.

Plane began in public on [GitHub](https://github.com/makeplane/plane) at the end of 2022. Since then, it has grown from an open-source project into a work management platform used by teams around the world. Organizations can use Plane as a managed Cloud service, run it on their own infrastructure, or deploy it inside fully isolated environments. Building in the open keeps us close to users and raises the standard for what we ship.

We believe the future of work will be shaped by people and agents working together. That makes shared context, explicit state, durable history, and accountable action more important-not less. Plane exists to make that future useful, legible, and within the organization's control.

Plane is backed by OSS Capital and built across San Francisco and Hyderabad. We work in small, collaborative teams, stay close to users, and care about both the visible product experience and the unglamorous details that make software dependable. People own problems end to end and add process only when it helps the work.

We are still early. If you want to help define what work infrastructure becomes-and build software that teams can make their own and organizations can depend on-we'd like to hear from you.

About the Role

We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Senior Automation Test Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our software products. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in test automation using Playwright or Cypress, a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, and exceptional attention to detail.

In this role, you will design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites for web applications. You will work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to identify quality risks, improve test coverage, and integrate automated testing into the software development lifecycle.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks using Playwright or Cypress.

  • Create and execute automated test cases based on project requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications.

  • Automate functional, regression, integration, smoke, and end-to-end test scenarios for web applications.

  • Perform exploratory and manual testing when necessary to identify defects, usability issues, and automation opportunities.

  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and define effective testing strategies.

  • Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.

  • Analyze automated test results, investigate failures, and distinguish between application defects, test-script issues, and environmental problems.

  • Document test results, defects, quality risks, and deviations from expected behavior accurately and efficiently.

  • Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot issues, verify fixes, and ensure the stability of software releases.

  • Participate in requirement reviews, test-case reviews, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release-planning meetings.

  • Improve automation coverage, execution speed, test reliability, and maintainability.

  • Identify and resolve flaky tests and contribute to improving the overall stability of the automation suite.

  • Mentor and guide junior QA engineers by sharing technical expertise and automation-testing best practices.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, tools, and technologies related to test automation and quality engineering.

Skills You'll Need to Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Five years of experience in software quality assurance, including significant hands-on experience in test automation.

  • Strong experience with Playwright or Cypress for testing modern web applications.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript.

  • Experience designing and maintaining automation frameworks using patterns such as the Page Object Model, fixtures, reusable components, and data-driven testing.

  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Experience creating test plans, test scenarios, test cases, and automated test scripts from requirements and design documents.

  • Hands-on experience with functional, regression, integration, smoke, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.

  • Experience testing REST APIs using tools or libraries such as Postman, Playwright API testing, Cypress API testing, or REST-assured.

  • Familiarity with version-control systems such as Git.

  • Experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD pipelines.

  • Ability to debug test failures using browser developer tools, logs, screenshots, videos, traces, and network information.

  • Experience with test-management and defect-tracking tools such as Jira, TestRail, Zephyr, Xray, or HP ALM.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional Agile team.

  • Experience with mobile, cross-browser, accessibility, visual-regression, or performance testing.

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with tools such as BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, Applitools, Lighthouse, JMeter, or k6.

  • Experience working with Docker and cloud-based testing environments.

  • Knowledge of SQL and database testing.

  • Experience testing microservices and distributed systems.

  • Experience leading or managing QA and automation teams.

Why Join Plane?

  • Be part of a global product team driving meaningful impact worldwide.

  • Thrive in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment that prioritizes continuous learning.

  • Experience a vibrant and supportive company culture.

  • Join a high-growth organization with exciting opportunities for advancement.
