By collaborating closely with our hardware, algorithm, and software teams, you will help ensure that advanced quantum technology can be accessed through intuitive and robust software systems.\nThis role is ideal for engineers who enjoy working across backend services, web applications, and distributed software systems, and who are motivated by contributing to the infrastructure that enables real users to explore and apply quantum computing.\nWe actively invest in AI-assisted software development and encourage engineers to use and experiment with tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and other coding agents. We want our engineers to learn how to use these tools effectively while maintaining strong engineering judgment, code quality, and ownership.\nYour responsibilities\nDevelop new features and tests for platform software components.\nDesign and evolve interfaces and distributed services for submitting, scheduling, and managing quantum computing workloads.\nContribute to the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software supporting planqc’s quantum computing systems.\nImplement and maintain backend and frontend components to support scalable and user-friendly applications.\nImprove code structure, readability, performance, and reliability to maintain production-quality software.\nSupport the integration of platform services into planqc’s broader software stack, ensuring stable and efficient system operation.\nFollow modern software engineering practices including version control, code reviews, automated testing, and documentation.\nDocument software components and features consistently during development.\nCollaborate closely with team members and share knowledge across the engineering organization.\nContinuously expand your understanding of new technologies and the fundamentals of quantum computing systems.\nWhat you bring\n3+ years of experience in professional software development.\nDegree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.\nProficiency in two or more programming languages, such as Python, TypeScript, Rust, C++, C, or Java.\nExperience building backend services in Python using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django, and web applications in TypeScript using frameworks such as React or Vue.\nExperience working with ORMs and relational databases, combined with a good understanding of SQL. \nFamiliarity with CI/CD workflows, unit testing, and version control (Git).\nHands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.\nStrong motivation to learn new technologies and continuously improve your engineering skills.\nAbility to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.\nFluent in English (C1 level).\nValid work authorization for Germany or the EU, and willingness to work on-site in the Munich area.\nNice to have\nExperience with AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code or other agentic coding tools.\nExperience with Domain-Driven Design or other approaches to structuring complex software domains.\nContributions to open-source projects or personal technical software projects.\nExperience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.\nFamiliarity with quantum software frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, or PennyLane.\nWhat characterizes you\nYou are a collaborative team player who enjoys working across disciplines and organizations.\nYou take ownership of your work and are motivated to contribute to impactful engineering projects.\nYou are curious about quantum technologies and emerging computing paradigms.\nYou approach technical challenges with pragmatism and a strong focus on quality.\nYou value clear communication, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback within a team.\nWhy join planqc\nAt planqc, we are building scalable quantum computers based on neutral atoms, one of the most promising approaches to realizing practical quantum advantage.
