Manufacturing Engineer II
Status: Exempt (salaried)
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the fabrication, manufacturing, and testing of electrolyzer systems by optimizing production processes, ensuring manufacturability, and addressing technical challenges. This role involves working closely with the global network of fabricators, internal engineering teams, and suppliers to implement efficient and cost-effective manufacturing solutions. The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on improving manufacturing quality, reducing lead times, and ensuring smooth transition from design to production. The position requires a hands-on approach to resolving production issues, ensuring quality standards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The manufacturing engineers should also be able to take responsibility on decision making which contributes to continuation and progress. Close collaboration with between engineering and procurement for sourcing the required materials and components.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the global fabrication network, troubleshooting production issues and providing solutions in real time.
- Manufacturability Feedback: Collaborate with design and engineering teams to provide feedback on product designs, ensuring manufacturability and ease of assembly.
- Work closely with external fabricators and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials, resolve technical challenges, and align production processes.
- Close collaboration and involvement with engineering and procurement to create a clear scope of work for outsourcing fabrication activities and provide input for procurement and component selection.
- Translate part and product design in Windchill to procure-able data in Avante, by assessing the manufacturability of the engineered product and working closely with engineering to drive design changes where required.
- Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production throughput.
- Assist with prototype builds and small-scale production runs, providing feedback to engineering teams for design optimization on (repeatable) manufacturability, accessibility, and maintainability
- Work with the team to design, select, and optimize tools and equipment to ensure efficient and high-quality production.
- Create deliverables and training for production staff on best practices, manufacturing processes, and safety standards.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations in the manufacturing process and across all fabrication sites.
- Collaborate with testing teams to ensure that manufactured systems meet all performance and quality requirements before delivery.
- Develops and maintains a detailed understanding of Plug Power products and related manufacturing objectives and constraints.
- Supports supplier quality initiatives by thoroughly understanding parts/components needs and limitations; drives expectations of performance with suppliers and addresses issues that arise.
- Champions and facilitates the engineering change process and all relevant communication/documentation
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- BS degree in engineering; mechanical, electrical, industrial
- Six Sigma green belt/black belt preferred
- Three (3) or more years of related work experience; experience within a high-tech manufacturing operation is highly preferred
- Proven track record of helping to drive manufacturing improvement projects
- Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to translate complex methodologies to diverse audiences and stakeholders
- Uncompromising dedication to product quality
- Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
