Position Overview

As an HR System Solution Architect Senior within PNC's HR Information Systems organization, you will be based in North Carolina.

Serve as the senior technical authority and strategic architect for the Varicent Incentive Compensation Management (ICM) platform. Responsible for defining platform architecture, establishing technical standards, leading complex solution design, and ensuring the long-term scalability, resiliency, and operational stability of a business-critical compensation system. This role requires deep expertise in Varicent, incentive compensation processes, data architecture, custom calculation design, and enterprise integrations.

Key Responsibilities

· Serve as the senior architect and technical leader for the Varicent platform, providing strategic direction, architectural governance, and subject matter expertise across all incentive compensation programs.

· Help define and maintain the overall Varicent technology roadmap, including platform architecture, data strategy, integration patterns, security considerations, and scalability planning.

· Lead the design and architecture of complex Varicent solutions, including compensation plans, calculation engines, hierarchies, workflows, reporting frameworks, and data models.

· Partner with HR, Incentive Compensation, Payroll, Finance, Technology, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into sustainable, compliant, and scalable technical solutions.

· Establish architectural standards, design principles, development practices, and governance processes to ensure consistency, maintainability, and long-term platform health.

· Provide oversight and technical leadership for major system enhancements, platform upgrades, strategic initiatives, and transformation efforts, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards.

· Evaluate and optimize data models, ETL processes, calculation performance, and platform processing efficiency to improve accuracy, scalability, and operational resilience.

· Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical production issues, compensation calculation discrepancies, integration failures, and performance challenges.

· Drive platform resiliency efforts through documentation, knowledge management, architectural reviews, cross-training, succession planning, and reduction of key-person dependencies.

· Mentor architects and support resources, providing technical leadership and helping elevate organizational capability within Varicent and incentive compensation technologies.

· Assess new capabilities, emerging technologies, and industry best practices related to incentive compensation management, analytics, automation, and platform modernization.

· Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership by providing architectural recommendations, risk assessments, solution options, and strategic guidance for compensation technology investments.

Required Experience & Qualifications

· Deep hands-on expertise with the Varicent Incentive Compensation Management (ICM) platform, including architecture, implementation, configuration, calculation design, and operational support.

· Extensive experience designing and supporting complex incentive compensation programs and compensation calculation frameworks.

· Advanced knowledge of SQL, relational database architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization.

· Strong experience designing and supporting enterprise integrations, ETL processes, and large-scale data pipelines.

· Proven experience defining technical strategy, architecture standards, and governance practices for enterprise platforms.

· Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale initiatives, make architecture decisions, influence stakeholders, and drive technical outcomes across cross-functional teams.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience diagnosing complex data, integration, and compensation-processing issues.

· Experience mentoring technical teams and serving as a senior-level technical leader within a complex enterprise environment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience supporting Workday integrations and broader HR technology ecosystems.

· Experience designing scalable compensation architectures within large financial services or highly regulated environments.

· Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, cloud-based integration patterns, and data governance principles.This position may be eligible for remote work in select geographic locations, subject to approval by PNC. If approved, work must be conducted from a quiet, secure, and confidential home-based workspace. Occasional in-office participation may be required based on business needs.PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position.

Job Description

  • Analyzes, designs and implements the organization's Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) platform, which may include system administration/support, improving the efficiency of data collection and acting as a subject-matter expert for applicable systems/processes. May coach/lead other analysts/associates.
  • Consults on the evaluation, analysis and design of HRIS for the organization and oversees complex activities and projects.
  • May lead review of data input, output and reports to ensure the accuracy of data in the HRIS.
  • Recommends solutions for improving the efficiency of data collection and reporting procedures.
  • Provides end user support and coordinates with other human resources functions to ensure that the HRIS is adequately and efficiently supporting the organization's human resources practices; Leads process improvements where relevant.
  • Recommends and implements more complex systems and technology solutions.
