We need an engineer who can work across backend + frontend to ship the highest-leverage product and growth improvements - whatever moves the needle.\nWhat you'll own\nEnd-to-end projects: instrumentation → backend services → web/app UI → rollout & iteration.\n\nBuild and iterate on user-facing product features (activation, retention, paid conversion, core UX).\n\nDesign, implement, and scale backend systems: APIs, data models, pipelines, jobs, reliability.\n\nImprove frontend surfaces where it matters (web product, internal tools, landing pages, onboarding flows).\n\nDrive experiments: set hypotheses, ship fast, measure results, and harden what works.\n\nWork closely with design, product, marketing, and support - and help unblock them with code.\n\nWhat success looks like\nShipped features/experiments that measurably improve activation/retention/revenue.\n\nReliable systems with clear observability (logs/metrics/traces) and pragmatic correctness.\n\nClean, simple architecture that stays fast to iterate on as the product evolves.\n\nHigh ownership: you proactively find the most important problems and solve them.\n\nWhat we're looking for\nHave strong backend fundamentals (APIs, DBs, async jobs, caching, performance, reliability).\n\nCan comfortably ship frontend changes (React/TypeScript or similar), even if it’s not your “main thing.”\n\nCare deeply about product outcomes and can translate ambiguity into shipped work.\n\nPrefer shipping and learning over long debates; you can move quickly without breaking things.\n\n6-10+ years of experience shipping production software (startup pace preferred).\n\nWhat we care about most\nPerformance and reliability by default: profiling, latency budgets, graceful degradation, and pragmatic correctness.\n\nNice-to-haves\nExperience running experiments / analytics instrumentation (events, funnels, cohorts).\n\nExperience building internal tools that make teams faster.\n\nStartup / zero-to-one experience.\n\nOur stack (today)\nMobile: Flutter\n\nFrontend: React (TypeScript)\n\nBackend: Go + Node\n\nData: Postgres + Redis\n\nWhat we offer\nWork directly with us and learn fast\n\nDirect impact on how the company operates day to day\n\nHigh-trust, high-responsibility environment\n\nCompetitive compensation\n\nAbout Pocket\nPocket is a Y Combinator W26 company building a premium hardware plus software product in the AI voice recorder space.
