We're looking for someone who knows what needs to get done, who should do it, and how to get it across the finish line.\nThis is a fractional, ongoing engagement, requiring consistent availability throughout the working week and close collaboration with our founders.\nWhat You'll Own\nLegal Operations & Strategy\nOwn and prioritize the company's legal roadmap and day-to-day legal matters.\n\nServe as the primary point of contact for external law firms.\n\nCoordinate legal work across internal teams and external counsel.\n\nTrack legal matters, deadlines, deliverables, and outstanding decisions.\n\nManage outside counsel relationships, budgets, and legal spend.\n\nBuild scalable legal processes, infrastructure, and approval workflows.\n\nProactively identify and escalate material legal risks.\n\nCorporate & Governance\nCoordinate corporate governance and board-related matters.\n\nOversee equity, ESOP, stock options, and capitalization matters.\n\nSupport fundraising, financing, and corporate transactions.\n\nWork closely with external corporate counsel.\n\nCommercial & Contracts\nDraft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements.\n\nOversee vendor, manufacturing, partnership, and enterprise agreements.\n\nManage NDAs and other day-to-day contracts.\n\nDevelop standardized contract templates and approval processes.\n\nEmployment & People\nOversee employment and contractor agreements.\n\nCoordinate employee separations and related documentation.\n\nManage IP assignment and confidentiality matters.\n\nSupport employee policies, handbooks, and HR compliance.\n\nCoordinate immigration and employment-law matters with specialist counsel.\n\nPrivacy, Compliance & Risk\nCoordinate privacy, data protection, and consumer protection matters.\n\nOversee product-related regulatory and compliance requirements.\n\nSupport the development of internal compliance programs.\n\nCoordinate litigation and disputes with external counsel.\n\nEnsure legal advice translates into clear, actionable business decisions.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally combining leading law firm and in-house experience.\n\nExperience advising venture-backed, high-growth technology companies.\n\nStrong foundation in corporate governance and commercial agreements.\n\nWorking knowledge of employment, privacy, compliance, and litigation management.\n\nExperience coordinating multiple external law firms and legal workstreams.\n\nAbility to operate independently and exercise sound legal judgment.\n\nHighly practical, commercially minded, and execution-oriented.\n\nAbility to distinguish material business risks from theoretical legal concerns.\n\nComfortable working directly with founders and senior leadership.\n\nStrong organizational skills and a bias toward action.\n\nBuilder mentality - excited to create scalable legal infrastructure rather than inherit an established department.\n\nExperience with consumer technology, hardware, AI, international operations, or high-growth DTC businesses is a strong plus.\nWorking Arrangement\nFractional / Part-Time\n\nOngoing engagement with regular availability throughout the working week.\n\nExpected commitment: approximately 1-3 hours per business day, with flexibility based on company needs.\n\nClose collaboration with the founding team.\n\nPrimarily focused on U.S. legal matters, with coordination of international counsel as needed.\n\nReporting & Growth\nReports directly to the COO and works closely with the CEO, CTO, Finance, Operations, Product, and external legal partners.\nAs Pocket continues to scale, this role may evolve into a broader leadership position within the company's legal function.\nAbout the interview\nQuick intro call (15 min) - experience, motivation, compensation expectations, and location fit\nLegal case study based on a realistic Pocket business/legal problem\n\nLegal interview covering corporate, commercial, employment, privacy/compliance, and practical risk assessment\n\nCross-functional interview with Finance, Operations, or Product\n\nInterview with the founders\n\nReference check\n\nOffer\n\nOnboarding\n\nAbout Pocket\nPocket is a Y Combinator W26 company building a premium hardware plus software product in the AI voice recorder space.
