The operator assists with various production-based responsibilities such as safely operating heavy machinery within the terminal, organizing the containers in the yard, and container data entry.\nSchedule : Monday through Friday, 6:45 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional weekend and holiday work required (includes overtime, holiday pay + double time pay)\nThis is an on-site position located in Savannah, GA. Responsibilities include:\nConduct daily pre-inspection of equipment to ensure compliance\nCoordinate within the yard the daily plan and ensure the yard is organized to execute the plan for the day (utilizing electronic communications and POET software)\nInteract with over-the-road drivers arriving on the premises, providing assistance and direction.\nOperate specialized heavy machinery (Top-Lift) to maneuver the containers from trucks to their designated location in the yard\nCommunicate regularly with supervisor and control room operator (radio, electronic communication, in person)\nAssist with standard maintenance of the yard (sweep, shovel & pressure wash).\nAdhere to all safety policies and procedures\nFoster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.\nMaintain and advance the food safety and quality of POET’s products and processes to deliver a best-in-class culture of quality.\nSince we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skill may be put to many other uses!\nQUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS\nOne (1) year relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.\nValid State Driver’s License required.\nPrevious spotting experience.\nKnowledge of general warehouse practices.\nKnowledge of various types of equipment and their controls.\nAbility to work with hands.\nAbility to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.\nExcellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.\nYou communicate effectively in writing and in person.\nYou have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a terminal facility.\nKnowledge of the basics of the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability of learning new programs.\nA SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE\nIntegrity with a willingness to work honestly and ethically where safety is a top priority.\nHumility\nInterpersonal skills - ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels within/outside the organization\nAbility to embrace and promote change\nSelf-awareness in the face of uncertainty\nAbility to work in a team environment\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT\nThis position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.\nThis role has some physical requirements that our team members will need to be able to perform, such as:Specific physical requirements may include:Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.\nClimbing several flights of stairs and ladders.\nOccasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.\nWalking up to two (2) or more miles per day.\nPushing brooms, shovels, etc.\nStanding for extended periods of time.\nWearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).\nUsing hand and power tools.\n\nDue to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process.
