Learn more about who we are at Point32Health.\nJob Summary\nThe Director of Research Computing, Data & Technology reports to the Vice President, Administration and Finance at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute (Institute), a research and teaching partnership between Point32Health and Harvard Medical School. This role works closely with Institute leadership, faculty investigators, research center directors, research administration, compliance, privacy, security, and enterprise IT partners.This individual is responsible for developing and executing the Institute's research technology strategy and oversight of research computing, research technology, data enablement, and related support staff. The role combines strategic planning, innovation leadership, stakeholder engagement, governance, and program management with a deep understanding of research operations and scientific workflows.\nThe Director serves as the primary liaison among researchers, operational leadership, enterprise IT, compliance, and external partners to ensure that technology investments align with scientific priorities and institutional objectives.\nThe position directly supervises a team of four and is expected to provide leadership and oversight for research technology initiatives, including evaluating and, where warranted, redesigning the roles, structure, and responsibilities of this team to align with the Institute's research technology strategy.\nJob Description\nKey Responsibilties/Duties:\nProvide strategic leadership and maintain a multi-year roadmap for research computing, data management, analytics, AI, and digital research enablement.\nLead and develop the research technology team by optimizing organizational structure, setting goals, coaching staff, and managing performance.\nServe as a trusted advisor to researchers and Institute leadership, aligning technology initiatives with scientific, operational, and strategic priorities.\nTranslate research requirements into scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions while serving as the primary liaison between researchers and enterprise IT.\nDrive digital transformation through automation, cloud services, advanced analytics, AI, and emerging technologies to enhance research productivity and innovation.\nOversee all Institute computing and data storage environments, including cloud platforms, servers, research computing resources, and shared network drives.\nDirect the governance and lifecycle management of Institute data assets, including acquisition, contracting, data sharing agreements, onboarding/offboarding processes, SOPs, retention, and secure destruction.\nProvide shared oversight of Research Service Data Center (RSDC) technical environments and serve as the primary liaison for related partnerships, governance, and data-sharing agreements.\nOversee Institute-approved software assets, including vendor management, contracting, licensing, distribution, compliance, and lifecycle management.\nEstablish governance, compliance, and policy frameworks that balance innovation, security, regulatory requirements, and responsible research practices.\nManage the research technology portfolio, budget, performance metrics, and strategic reporting, including tracking utilization of data assets to support grant, contract, and funding opportunities.\nCore Competencies\nStrategic vision and execution; technology innovation and digital transformation; research operations expertise.\nStakeholder engagement and influence; program and portfolio management; change leadership; team leadership and organizational design.\nGovernance and policy development; financial and resource planning; partnership development; executive communication.\nEducation, Certification and Licensure\nMaster's degree in informatics, data science, public health, health services research, computer science, healthcare analytics, business, or a related field.\nExperience (Minimum years required):\nEight to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in research technology, research administration, research computing, informatics, or related areas, including five to seven years in management or supervisory capacity.\nDemonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives involving researchers, technology teams, and organizational leadership.\nStrong understanding of research workflows, sponsored research, and technology-enabled scientific collaboration.\nExceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.\nSkill Requirements:\nWorking knowledge of research computing and data platforms, including cloud computing, high-performance computing, and analytics environments. \nFamiliarity with AI-enabled research tools and emerging technologies, and their practical application to scientific workflows. \nKnowledge of research data governance, privacy, and security requirements, including IRB, HIPAA, and sponsor data use obligations. \nSkilled in project and portfolio management, including budgeting, resource planning, and performance measurement. \nProven ability to build consensus and influence stakeholders across research, technical, and administrative functions without direct authority. \nDisclaimer\nThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
