Application must be completed in full.\nPosition Summary:\nOversees the day-to-day vessel, gate, and container yard operations. Take appropriate action as necessary to optimize operations through maximizing production, efficiency, and safety with proper utilization of personnel and equipment.\nKey Responsibilities/Duties:\nSupervise ILA Local 1351 and ILA Local 28 staff including managing performance, discipline, and recognition. Supervise and coordinate 24/7 road and terminal operations \nResponsible for setting up Vessel Operations plans, gather load back pads and find discharge pad locations. \nDirect the movement of port equipment and labor around the terminal to ensure road, vessel, and yard trucks are serviced in a timely manner. \nCoordinate terminal allocations when designated in Yard Planning Center. \nPerform rail operations duties/functions when designated. \nEstablish and maintain adequate relationships and provide direct liaison with stevedoring and shipping industry. \nDetermine and finalize labor and equipment orders for the evening, following day, weekend and holiday. \nCreate and maintain stevedore utilization of Port Houston cranes and equipment; prepare and finalize crane bills. \nReview and approve daily/weekly ILA labor payroll. \nRespond to all accidents; create incident reports and investigate cause of incident. \nCoordinate with Port Police and Fire departments of accidents, incidents, or any violations or potential hazards to the environment. \nMaintain all truck driver safety violations. Meet with trucking companies and drivers as needed to discuss excess violations leading to a ban from the terminal. \nInform the Terminal Manager and Vessel Operations Manager of vessel, yard and gate activities. \nCreate and provide productivity container yard recap reports and correspondence with appropriate stakeholders. \nUpdate VMS for required access to the terminals. \nPerform required safety audits and attend safety-training classes. \nComplete all assigned training. \nAct in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you) \nPerform related duties as required \nEducation/Experience:\nBachelor’s Degree in Maritime Administration, Business Administration, or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution required; or in lieu of degree, 5+ years of related experience in a similar role. \n1+ years of related experience preferred \nKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:\nKnowledge of stevedoring and/or terminal operations with emphasis on ILA management \nKnowledge of reporting methods \nKnowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision \nVerbal and written communication skills \nCritical thinking skills \nCustomer service skills \nData entry skills \nOrganization, prioritization, and time management skills \nAbility to create multiple, accurate reports \nAbility to work under pressure and meet scheduled deadlines \nAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships \nProficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite \nAttention to detail \nA current, valid Texas driver's license is required \nA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment \nKey Competencies Required:\nAdaptability \nAttention to Detail \nCollaboration \nEffective Communication \nStress Tolerance\n*This is a Night Shift position\nThis work site location of this job is:\nBayport MaintenanceWork Environment:\nThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
