This role combines advanced software development skills with strong communication and leadership capabilities to guide teams, influence technical decisions, and ensure solutions align with Premera’s strategic objectives, standards, and regulatory requirements.\nThis is a hybrid role, located on our campus in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.\nWhat you’ll do:\nDefine and drive AI-enabled DevSecOps automation, including solution design and implementation of fully automated CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure delivery (IaC).\n\nLead initiatives in AI-driven quality engineering, observability, monitoring, and AI-assisted operations to improve reliability, productivity, and delivery flow.\n\nProvide technical leadership to drive engineering excellence, governance, and quality gates across teams.\n\nDefine, design, and implement complex features with a focus on architecture, quality, usability, performance, and data-driven decision making.\n\nPartner with business and IT leaders to identify and solve complex, cross-functional problems and improvement opportunities.\n\nCollaborate closely with development teams, architects, business partners, and customers to translate requirements into high-quality technical solutions.\n\nParticipate in live site operations, including incident response, production support, and continuous improvement of service reliability.\n\nServe as a primary engineering and implementation partner, ensuring clear, timely, and effective communication across stakeholders.\n\nOversee code reviews to ensure compliance with Premera standards, architectural guidelines, and best practices.\n\nProvide vendor technical oversight, including code review and sign-off, to ensure quality outcomes and effective partnerships.\n\nMonitor key performance indicators and analyze delivery metrics to identify trends and recommend improvements.\n\nTrain, enforce, and evolve governance processes to ensure compliance with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.\n\nEnsure appropriate technical and architectural documentation is completed, including SDLC artifacts and production change records.\n\nAct as a technical leader and mentor, sharing knowledge across teams and contributing to the broader Premera engineering community.\n\nStay current with technology trends, best practices, and business needs, continuously evolving expertise and mentoring other engineers.\n\nWhat you’ll bring:\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.\n\n(8) years of software development experience with strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and proficiency in one or more programming languages.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience designing and delivering cloud-based solutions.\n\nHands-on experience with Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines, Wiki).\n\nExperience with Azure AI/OpenAI, including RAG patterns and prompt engineering.\n\nStrong observability and operational excellence mindset.\n\nExperience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments.\n\nFamiliarity with Premera technologies (e.g., Facets), where applicable.\n\nExperience working in an Agile environment.\n\nExperience with API and service-based architectures.\n\nExperience building or using automated testing frameworks.\n\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nDemonstrated expertise delivering enterprise-scale systems that solve complex business problems.\n\nDeep hands-on technical expertise in one or more core technologies, with architectural thinking across multiple domains.\n\nProven experience designing and delivering high-performance, scalable, and reliable solutions in enterprise environments.\n\nStrong collaborator with the ability to influence, align, and lead across differing perspectives.\n\nAbility to continuously evolve technical skills and mentor less experienced engineers.\n\nExperience leading implementation and deployment of complex enterprise systems.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nDemonstrated judgment in making sound technical tradeoffs aligned with short- and long-term business needs.\n\nResilient, composed, and effective in navigating ambiguity and complex delivery environments.\n\nPhysical Requirements\nThe following have been identified as essential physical requirements of this job and must be performed with or without an accommodation:\nThis is primarily a sedentary role which requires the ability to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.\n\nThis role requires the ability to keyboard and to communicate clearly and understandably in person and over the telephone.\n\nPremera total rewards\nOur comprehensive total rewards package provides support, resources, and opportunities to help employees thrive and grow.
