As a Software Development Engineer IV, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture, development, and evolution of Premera's mobile applications.\nIn this role, you'll lead the design and development of highly scalable React Native applications, drive mobile engineering best practices, and influence the technical direction of our mobile platform. You'll partner with product, design, architecture, security, and engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient, and user-centric mobile experiences for our members and providers.\nThis position is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring others, and driving long-term platform strategy while remaining hands-on with development.\nThis is a hybrid role located on our campus in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.\nWhat You'll Do\nLead the architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale React Native mobile applications.\n\nDesign solutions that support long-term scalability, maintainability, performance, and security.\n\nBuild and enhance shared mobile frameworks, reusable components, design systems, and platform capabilities.\n\nCollaborate with Product, UX, Security, and Engineering partners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.\n\nArchitect and implement integrations with REST APIs, GraphQL services, authentication platforms, and cloud-based services.\n\nDrive adoption of CI/CD, automated testing, release automation, and modern engineering practices.\n\nImprove application reliability through observability, monitoring, crash analytics, logging, and performance optimization.\n\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across Android and iOS platforms.\n\nEvaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations that improve developer productivity and user experience.\n\nPerform technical design reviews and provide guidance across multiple engineering teams.\n\nMentor and coach engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.\n\nInfluence engineering standards, mobile architecture strategy, and platform roadmaps.\n\nWhat You’ll Need\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.\n\n8+ years of professional software engineering experience.\n\n5+ years of experience developing React Native applications in production environments.\n\nExperience building and supporting applications on both iOS and Android platforms.\n\nStrong knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React Native, and modern mobile application architecture patterns.\n\nExperience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services.\n\nExperience with mobile testing frameworks, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nProven ability to design and deliver highly scalable, maintainable, and performant solutions.\n\nDemonstrated experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.\n\nStrong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with native mobile development using Swift and/or Kotlin.\n\nExperience implementing GraphQL in mobile applications.\n\nExperience with mobile security best practices, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and secure authentication flows.\n\nExperience with Azure cloud services and modern cloud-native architectures.\n\nExperience with observability platforms, crash reporting, and application monitoring tools.\n\nExperience with App Store and Google Play release processes.\n\nExperience implementing accessibility standards and responsive mobile design.\n\nExperience working in healthcare, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.\n\nExperience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar technologies.\n\nWhat Success Looks Like\nProvides technical leadership for Premera's mobile application ecosystem.\n\nDrives architectural decisions that improve scalability, performance, reliability, and developer productivity.\n\nDelivers high-quality mobile experiences that improve member and provider engagement.\n\nMentors engineers and elevates engineering practices across teams.\n\nPartners effectively with stakeholders to translate business strategy into technical execution.\n\nPremera total rewards\nOur comprehensive total rewards package provides support, resources, and opportunities to help employees thrive and grow.
