This manager will work closely with a cross-functional team to develop, enhance, and scale platforms like CNN Underscored. You will be responsible for leading the development of high-quality, customer-facing products and tools that power CNN’s e-commerce initiatives. As an engineering leader, you will foster a culture of excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement.\nYour Role Accountabilities…\nLead and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering collaboration, innovation, growth, and technical excellence while promoting continuous learning and career development.\nDrive technical strategy and oversee the development of scalable, high-performance web applications for CNN Digital Commerce.\nDrive cross-functional collaboration to align engineering, product, and business teams for data-driven decision-making and streamlined product development.\nLead efforts to improve engineering workflows, tooling, and processes for operational excellence.\nImplement and advocate for agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum or Kanban) and support continuous delivery practices.\nDrive initiatives around monitoring application health, infrastructure, and code performance to ensure system reliability and optimal user experiences.\nDrive innovation by adopting modern technologies, optimizing architecture, and ensuring long-term maintainability through code reviews and refactoring.\nQualifications & Experience:\nB.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred).\n10+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership role.\nProven track record in leading teams responsible for building and scaling e-commerce platforms or consumer-facing products.\nExtensive experience in modern web technologies, with deep expertise in JavaScript (Node.js, Vue.js), TypeScript, Fastly and Python.\nProficiency in cloud services such as AWS (Serverless/SAM, etc.), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure management (Terraform, CloudFormation).\nStrong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL), search engines (Elasticsearch), and caching solutions (Redis).\nExperience with high-performance, high-availability applications in production environments.\nDemonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire engineers to meet ambitious technical goals.\nStrong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nProven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and business teams.\nDeep familiarity with Agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).\nExperience with continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines and supporting incremental delivery of business value.\nBonus Skills\nExperience in non-procedural programming or applying functional-style programming concepts.\nPrevious involvement in building e-commerce, affiliate platforms, or consumer media applications.\nExperience in mentoring junior engineers, conducting technical interviews, and contributing to talent acquisition efforts.\nHow We Get Things Done…\nThis last bit is probably the most important!
