We want a leader who is excited to develop people, bring forward new ideas, and make a lasting impact!\n\nResponsibilities:\nLeadership & Safety Culture\nLead, mentor, and develop a team of safety professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team\nChampion a proactive safety culture built on trust, accountability, and shared responsibility across Primary\nBuild strong relationships with operational leaders and employees, empowering teams to take ownership of workplace safety\nChallenge conventional thinking, encourage new ideas, and drive meaningful improvements in safety practices\nSafety Programs & Compliance\nOversee and continuously improve Primary's health and safety programs, policies, and procedures\nEnsure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, industry standards, and COR certification requirements\nOversee workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action processes\nEnsure effective safety training, orientations, and ongoing education programs are delivered across the organization\nMaintain effective safety management systems, documentation, and reporting processes\nPerformance & Continuous Improvement\nDevelop, monitor, and report on key safety performance indicators, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement\nLead initiatives that strengthen safety performance, reduce workplace incidents, and encourage proactive hazard identification\nIdentify opportunities to improve safety systems, processes, and technologies\nPrepare and present safety performance updates and recommendations to senior leadership\nManage departmental budgets and resources to support effective program delivery\nCollaboration & Operational Support\nPartner with construction leaders and field teams to integrate safety into daily operations and project planning, maintaining a visible and supportive field presence\nCollaborate with engineering and other departments to develop practical safety solutions, progressively expanding responsibilities across Primary\nWork closely with the Senior Advisor, Safety to strengthen the company's safety programs and prepare for broader company-wide leadership responsibilities\n\nLogistics of Role\nBased in our Rocky View, Alberta office, this position is primarily office based, with regular travel to Primary's offices and project locations across Canada. A visible presence in the field and strong relationships with our operational teams will be important to your success.\n\nQualifications:\n5+ years of progressive health and safety experience, including direct experience supporting construction or field operations\n2+ years of demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to mentor, develop, and inspire others\nNCSO, CRSP, or a recognized occupational health and safety certification or diploma\nStrong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices\nExperience developing, implementing, and improving health and safety programs and management systems\nStrong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence people at all levels\nA proactive, practical, and collaborative approach to safety leadership, with a passion for continuous improvement\nValid Class 5 driver's licence and willingness to travel as required\n\nA few qualifications that would help you succeed:\nExperience working in electrical utilities, power infrastructure, or engineering and construction environments\nExperience managing or supporting COR certification and audit processes\nFamiliarity with safety management platforms such as SiteDocs and contractor compliance systems such as ISNetworld\nCUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) designation\nExperience supporting safety programs across multiple locations or jurisdictions\nEnvironmental management experience or related certification\nWHMIS Train the Trainer
