This role blends people leadership, technical stewardship, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure data is trusted, accessible, and delivered in support of analytics, AI, and business decision-making.\nWhat you’ll do:\nYou will manage a team of data engineers, set technical direction, and partner closely with Product, Analytics, Infrastructure, and Business stakeholders to deliver high-impact data solutions.\nPeople & Team Leadership\nLead, mentor, and develop a team of Data Engineers through regular 1:1s, coaching, and performance feedback\nOwn hiring, onboarding, career development, and performance management for the team\nFoster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement\nBalance delivery expectations with sustainable team practices\nTechnical & Delivery Ownership\nOwn the design, development, and operation of data ingestion, transformation, storage pipelines (batch and streaming), and analytical model(s)\nEnsure reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency of data systems\nDrive best practices in data modeling, data quality, observability, and operational excellence\nReview and guide technical designs, architecture decisions, and code quality\nPartner with platform and infrastructure teams on tooling, security, and scalability\nExecution & Stakeholder Collaboration\nTranslate business and analytics requirements into scalable technical solutions\nPartner with Product, Analytics Engineering, Data Science, and Business teams to deliver trusted datasets and metrics\nOwn sprint planning, prioritization, and delivery commitments\nCommunicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to stakeholders and leadership\nGovernance & Standards\nEstablish and enforce data engineering standards, patterns, and documentation\nSupport data governance, data contracts, and schema management\nEnsure compliance with security, privacy, and data retention requirements\nWhat you have:\nA graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.\n8+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related roles\n3+ years leading engineers (hiring, coaching, delivery accountability).\nStrong distributed systems fundamentals (scaling, reliability, data correctness).\nHands-on ability in Python and/or Java (can dive into code and unblock delivery).\nExperience with cloud data ecosystems (GCP - Preferred, AWS, or Azure)\nProficiency with SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, or Scala)\nExperience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Argo, etc.)\nSolid understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT patterns, and data reliability\nExperience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming)\nExperience with modern data warehouses / lakehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Iceberg)\nFamiliarity with analytics engineering tools (dbt, semantic layers)\nExposure to data governance, observability, and data quality tooling\nSelf-starter + ownership: drives ambiguous problems to durable solutions.\nBuilds and grows teams: mentors, raises the bar, and develops talent.\nQuality-first: designs for operability, correctness, and reliability from day one.\nWhere you’ll live:\nWhile we prefer candidates based in Atlanta, we are open to qualified applicants from anywhere in the U.S. and are willing to consider remote candidates. #LI-Remote \nWorking at PrizePicks:\nThe typical salary range for this position is $215,000 to $235,000.
