Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and expediting engineering spares, technical equipment, maintenance materials, production consumables, and specialised services required to support the continuous operation of the steel manufacturing plant.\nThe incumbent will work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, Stores, and Finance departments to ensure the timely procurement of quality products and services at competitive prices while maintaining optimal inventory levels and supplier performance.\nThe role requires strong technical knowledge, commercial acumen, and the ability to interpret engineering specifications and technical drawings.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nProcurement and Sourcing\nSource and procure engineering spares, electrical components, mechanical equipment, tools, consumables, and technical services.\nObtain and evaluate quotations from approved suppliers.\nPrepare and process purchase orders in accordance with company procurement policies.\nNegotiate pricing, delivery schedules, warranties, and commercial terms.\nEnsure timely procurement of critical production and maintenance requirements.\nIdentify alternative suppliers and products to reduce costs and improve supply continuity.\nTechnical Purchasing\nInterpret engineering specifications, technical drawings, bills of materials, and equipment manuals.\nVerify technical requirements with engineering and maintenance departments before placing orders.\nEnsure purchased items meet required technical and quality standards.\nSource replacement parts for plant equipment and machinery.\nLiaise with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and specialised suppliers.\nAssist in identifying equivalent or substitute products where appropriate.\nSupplier Management\nDevelop and maintain strong supplier relationships.\nConduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews.\nMonitor supplier delivery performance and quality standards.\nResolve supplier-related issues including delays, quality concerns, and non-conformances.\nSupport supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives.\nInventory and Materials Management\nWork closely with Stores personnel to monitor stock levels.\nAssist in maintaining minimum and maximum stock levels for critical spare parts.\nIdentify opportunities to reduce excess inventory and obsolete stock.\nSupport inventory optimisation and materials planning initiatives.\nParticipate in annual stock-taking and inventory verification processes.\nCost Management\nIdentify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or operational requirements.\nConduct market research and benchmarking exercises.\nSupport annual budgeting processes for maintenance and engineering procurement.\nMonitor purchasing trends and expenditure.\nAssist in achieving procurement cost reduction targets.\nExpediting and Order Management\nMonitor outstanding purchase orders and delivery schedules.\nExpedite urgent orders to prevent production interruptions.\nCommunicate delivery updates to relevant stakeholders.\nResolve supply chain disruptions and procurement challenges promptly.\nCompliance and Governance\nEnsure compliance with company procurement policies and procedures.\nMaintain accurate procurement documentation and records.\nAdhere to ethical procurement standards and conflict-of-interest requirements.\nSupport internal and external audits.\nEnsure procurement activities comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.\nReporting and Administration\nPrepare procurement reports and purchasing performance metrics.\nMaintain supplier databases and procurement records.\nMonitor procurement KPIs and supplier performance indicators.\nGenerate reports on procurement savings, supplier performance, and purchasing activities.\nAssist management with procurement analysis and forecasting.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nMinimum Requirements\nGrade 12 (Matric).\nNational Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.\nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, or Business Management.\nCIPS qualification or equivalent procurement certification.\nTechnical or engineering qualification will be
