Simplexity is a product development engineering firm, hired by leading technology companies to design their next generation products. In an industry of overly-complex design and production, we strive for simplicity, reducing product cost and improving reliability for our clients through our Product Development Process.\nWhy join Simplexity Product Development?\nSimplexity works across a breadth of projects - from robotics and IoT to medical devices, consumer wearables, automation and more. You’ll roll up your sleeves and help solve difficult problems for demanding clients who expect excellence.\nOur teams are tight, collaborative, and made up of folks who genuinely want to build something cool and delight our customers. Yet that doesn’t mean grinding for 60-hours per week, week-over-week. We believe that quality, creative work can usually be done in 40-45 hours per week and that each employee should own their work-life balance.\nWhat we offer is meaningful engineering, technical growth, and the chance to be on the “front line” of product development. If you thrive on variety and want to work with talented engineers on cutting-edge products, then this could be the place for you.\nPOSTION DESCRIPTION\nAs a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you would be working with and leading teams designing subsystems of various products, tools, and equipment. We are seeking candidates to develop complex products that include robotics, mechanisms, biotech instrumentation as well as other components. Specific technical responsibilities vary by project; however, it is imperative that you have command of all mechanical engineering fundamentals and understand how they are applied to simple, reliable design.\nThis position is ideal for someone who has a strong technical background, technical leadership experience, and has worked in product development consulting. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, yet enjoy a casual and flexible work atmosphere, then Simplexity may be the place for you.\nArchitect, design, and integrate intricate mechanical systems.\nEfficiently represent concepts for your designs using block diagrams, rough CAD/schematics, sketches, etc.\nSolve problems and design solutions that incorporate custom (injection-molded, machined, 3D-printed, and sheet metal), semi-custom, and off-the-shelf parts.\nPerform paper-studies using various mechanical engineering academic principles, such as force and energy balances, structural calculations, mechanical vibration, tolerance analysis, mechanical power transmission, etc.\nManage large 3D CAD assemblies of many components.\nGenerate and maintain an organized bill of materials.\nCreate 2D drawings using ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.\nQuickly and effectively prototype design concepts, test specifications, and iterate on the design.\nLead and mentor more junior engineers.\nWork collaboratively with other engineers of various disciplines.\nIdentify appropriate manufacturing methods for prototyping and production. Design components appropriately for those manufacturing methods.\nManage, organize, and prioritize technical issues on your designs and drive toward resolution.\nWork closely and communicate regularly with clients and project management to keep stakeholders apprised of project status, issues, design decisions, and risks.\nCoordinate with external partners in areas like industrial design and contract manufacturing.\nSupport working on-site in the Seattle Metro area.\nAs-needed - conduct or inform simulations such as structural FEA, thermal FEA, CFD, etc.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year university.\n8+ years of relevant professional engineering experience. \nProficient knowledge of SolidWorks (highly preferred) or equivalent CAD package.\nThorough understanding of 2D drawings, with a preference for strength in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and how it is applied to design and manufacturing.\nDemonstrable knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical design considerations - injection molding, sheet metal, machining, rapid prototyping, etc.\nDemonstrable knowledge of assembly and alignment methods - screw joints, snap fits, dowel pins, heat-staking, etc.\nAbility to identify and root-cause system-level defects.\nExperience in design and integration of complex systems working closely with cross-functional disciplines (electrical, firmware, software, and systems engineers).\nExcellent organization and analytical skills combined with attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and plan effectively.\nHighly motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.\nAbility to communicate clearly and write detailed reports.\nHave a positive attitude and focus on client success.\nEthical and honest in every part of the job.\nPLUSES TO HAVE\nIn-depth fluids analysis and fluidic handling experience, including microfluidic system design\nExperience specifically related to product development consulting for clients\nExperience using a CAD PDM system to manage CAD files\nRobotics, instrumentation, and test equipment design experience. \nExperience with mechatronics and electro-mechanical systems including stepper and DC motors, solenoids, gear and belt drive systems, linear actuators, bearings, sensors, and electronics. \nProgramming experience \nPneumatic and/or hydraulic system design experience\nPrior experience with medical devices and working within a medical quality system \nFinite Element Analysis, Computation Flow Dynamics, or experience in other simulation packages\nCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS\nBase salary range: $140K - $160K, depending on years of experience and skill sets\nExcellent Healthcare plan (Medical, Dental, and Vision) fully paid for by the company for the employee; partial payment for dependents\n401(k) plan with company match\nLong-term and short-term disability, AD&D and Life Insurance\nPaid maternity/new parent leave\n11 Paid holidays\n3 weeks of paid time off (PTO) per year, increasing after 2, 5, and 9 years of service\nJob location is in Seattle, WA and sometimes requires onsite presence at Simplexity’s clients’ sites.\nNo recruiters please.\nSimplexity is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
