We are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where employees are valued, supported, and empowered to make a meaningful impact.\nPosition Summary\nProject Open Hand is seeking a Human Resources Generalist, Compliance & Workforce Care to provide immediate support across key Human Resources functions during a period of organizational assessment and growth. This temporary-to-permanent opportunity will play an important role in supporting compliance, workforce care initiatives, employee relations, leave administration, onboarding, HR systems, training coordination, and employee engagement programs.\nThe ideal candidate is an HR professional who enjoys balancing employee support with compliance responsibilities and is passionate about creating a positive workplace experience. This position works closely with employees, supervisors, and leadership to ensure effective HR service delivery while supporting a culture of care, accountability, and inclusion.\nAs organizational needs evolve, this role may become eligible for transition into a permanent position.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nHR Compliance & Employee Support\nSupport the administration and interpretation of HR policies, procedures, and employment practices.\nAssist with employee relations matters, including coaching, investigations, documentation, and conflict resolution.\nProvide guidance to supervisors and employees regarding workplace policies and HR processes.\nHelp ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.\nMaintain accurate and confidential employee records and personnel files.\nLeave & Accommodation Administration\nCoordinate leave of absence processes, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA accommodations, and other protected leaves.\nPartner with employees, supervisors, and benefits providers to ensure timely and compliant leave administration.\nMonitor leave cases and maintain required documentation and communications.\nWorkforce Care & Employee Engagement\nSupport workforce care initiatives designed to enhance employee well-being, retention, and engagement.\nAssist in planning and implementing employee recognition programs and engagement activities.\nCoordinate employee feedback programs, surveys, and related workforce care initiatives.\nRecruitment & Onboarding Support\nAssist with recruitment activities, candidate coordination, interview scheduling, and onboarding processes.\nFacilitate new hire orientation and support a positive onboarding experience.\nEnsure completion of required employment documentation and compliance requirements.\nHR Systems, Reporting & Administration\nMaintain HRIS data integrity and employee records.\nGenerate workforce reports, metrics, and data analyses to support HR decision-making.\nAssist with organizational charts, workforce tracking, audits, and special projects.\nSupport HR document management and process improvement initiatives.\nTraining & Development\nCoordinate employee training programs and compliance-related learning activities.\nTrack completion of required trainings and maintain records.\nAssist with workforce development and professional development initiatives.\nOther Duties\nParticipate in special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.\nPerform other duties consistent with the scope and level of the position.\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.\nThree or more years of progressive Human Resources experience.\nWorking knowledge of California and federal employment laws.\nExperience supporting employee relations, leave administration, accommodations, and HR compliance activities.\nExperience working with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office applications.\nStrong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS platforms.\nExperience in nonprofit, mission-driven, healthcare, or human services organizations.\nBilingual language skills.\nProfessional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP).\nWhat We're Looking For\nThe successful candidate will be:\nEmployee-focused and service-oriented.\nOrganized and detail-oriented, with strong follow-through.\nComfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.\nSkilled at building effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.\nCommitted to equity, inclusion, compliance, and workforce well-being.\nTemporary-to-Permanent Opportunity\nThis position is being offered as a temporary-to-permanent opportunity to support the organization's immediate Human Resources needs while we continue to evaluate the long-term structure of the role.
