With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $140 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City.\n\nTitle: Fleet Coordinator/Driver \nProgram: City Beets Kitchen\nSalary Range: $28.00/hour \n\nOverall Responsibilities:\nThe Fleet Coordinator/Driver is responsible for ensuring the organization’s fleet of vans operates safely, efficiently, and reliably in support of daily catering and meal delivery. This hands-on position combines fleet coordination, vehicle maintenance oversight, driving responsibilities, and real-time problem-solving. The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, dependable, and able to respond quickly to transportation challenges. \n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nThe essential duties of the Fleet Coordinator include but are not limited to the following activities:\n\nFleet Operations\nCoordinate the daily deployment of fleet vehicles to meet catering, meal delivery, and event schedules.\nConduct inspections of vehicles to ensure they are clean, safe, and operational.\nMonitor vehicle mileage, fuel usage, maintenance schedules, and inspections.\nMaintain fleet records, registrations, insurance documentation, and service history.\nSchedule preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize vehicle downtime.\nWork with repair vendors and monitor repair quality and costs.\nResponsible of dispatching routes to drivers according to daily event schedules.\n\nDriver Responsibilities\nSafely transport meals, catering equipment, supplies to various locations.\nComplete delivery logs, mileage reports, and vehicle inspection reports.\nServe as a backup driver whenever staffing shortages or emergencies arise.\n\nFleet Problem Solving\nRespond to vehicle breakdowns and roadside emergencies.\nTroubleshoot transportation issues and coordinate immediate solutions to keep operations running smoothly.\nReassign vehicles or routes when mechanical issues or scheduling conflicts occur.\nCommunicate effectively with drivers, kitchen staff, and management regarding transportation updates.\n\nTeam Support\nAssist with training new drivers on vehicle safety, inspections, and organizational procedures.\nPromote safe driving practices and accountability among transportation staff.\nEnsure drivers are scheduled to cover all routes and arrange coverage for call-outs and PTO.\nAssist with disciplinary and corrective actions for traffic violations and citations.\nSupport the Assistant Director of Transportation in improving fleet efficiency and reducing operating costs.\n\nPerformance Expectations\nMaintain vehicle readiness and minimize fleet downtime.\nEnsure on-time deliveries and transportation support.\nPromote a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service.\nSupport the organization’s mission by ensuring reliable transportation for meals, catering events, and community programs.\nAvailable to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed.\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and driving.\nAbility to load and unload catering equipment and food deliveries.\nAbility to safely operate cargo vans and light commercial vehicles.\n\nQualifications:\nHigh school diploma or GED required.\nValid driver’s license with a clean driving record.\nMinimum of 2-3 years of commercial driving, fleet coordination, logistics, or transportation experience.\nExperience with cargo vans, box trucks, or commercial vehicles preferred.\nBasic mechanical knowledge and ability to identify vehicle issues.\nStrong organizational and communication skills.\nAbility to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet management software is preferred.\nAbility to lift up to 75 pounds and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.\nThis position requires drug screening in accordance with New York State and New York City laws. \n\nPreferred Skills\nExcellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.\nStrong customer service and teamwork skills.\nAbility to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to transportation emergencies.\nExperience working in nonprofit organizations, food service, catering, or meal delivery operations.\nKnowledge of New York City streets and delivery logistics is highly desirable.\n\nThis position is ideal for someone who enjoys being both in the field and behind the scenes—keeping vehicles on the road, solving problems before they become emergencies, and ensuring that meal deliveries and catering operations continue without interruption.
