With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $140 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City.\n\nTitle: Shift Supervisor\nProgram: New Providence Women’s Shelter\nSalary Range: $41,000 - $44,000\n\nProgram Description:\nThe New Providence Women’s shelter is located within the Ramada Inn in West Midtown Manhattan and provides 100 emergency shelter beds for homeless women diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Our comprehensive services include case management, individual and group counseling, recreational activities, and housing placement assistance.\n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nDepending upon the shift, the essential duties of the Shift Supervisor include but are not limited to the following activities:\nProvides guidance and direction to the Residential Aides ensuring adequate coverage for each shift; monitoring their performance and initiating administrative action as warranted.\nProvides training of staff through on-site sessions as well as referrals to outside training sources.\nOversees the operation of the facility, including handling emergency and crisis situations during their tour of duty.\nProvides orientation for new arrivals, informing them of shelter rules and regulations, giving them a tour of the facility, assigning a locker and a bed, and giving them their basic supplies, including sheets, towels and toiletries. \nParticipates in daily meetings and shares any observations on the behavior of clients that might be useful to the Case Managers. \nOversees scheduled removal of linens by the Residential Aides, ensuring that proper protective protocols are followed and that the linens are properly bagged for pick up by the vendor contracted to launder them. \nAssists in the cafeteria with meals being served to clients at breakfast, lunch and dinner. \nAssist the weekend and evening clinical staff in getting clients access to their medications and responding to client issues. \nEnsures that any incident is recorded in the Logbook, but especially that priority incidents are called in to the Shelter Director, Assistant Shelter Director and DHS and that documentation is subsequently provided to supervisory staff in a timely manner. \nPerforms escort duties or ensures escorts are provided to clients as requested by the Case Managers.\nParticipates in some of the recreational activities offered to the clients, encouraging them to actively participate in order the gain the benefits of the activity.\nDistributes to clients any Metro Cards received from the Social Services staff.\nProvides supervision to a team of Residential Aides\nPerforms other duties as assigned by the Assistant Shelter Director or other supervisory staff. \nQualifications:\nAssociate degree and at least 1 year of experience working with people diagnosed with mental illness or having addiction or substance abuse issues.\nHigh School Diploma or GED and at least 2 years of experience working with people diagnosed with mental illness or having addiction or substance abuse issues. \nCertificates and Credentials\nFire Guard certification F-02 or Fire Safety Coordinator F-80\n\nPreferred Skills:\nTeam Building: Ability to work with staff to enhance their skills; ability to foster, through demonstration, team spirit, enabling staff to overcome the challenges of providing needed services to a special client population. \nLeadership: Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff to accomplish stated program goals and objectives while developing their individual and group skills. \nOrganizational: The ability to assess work requests, creates order of priorities, and assigns work to staff and monitor its timely completion. \nCommunication: Excellent oral, writing, and listening skills.\nInterpersonal: An ability to interface with clients as well as all levels of staff. \nComputer: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.\nLanguage: Bilingual or multilingual a plus.\n\nProject Renewal is an equal opportunity employer.
