You will own quality engineering for complex features and product areas: shaping test strategy, building durable automation, validating integrations and real user workflows, and improving the speed and trustworthiness of delivery feedback.\nThe ideal candidate is an accomplished engineer who has intentionally chosen quality engineering because they care about reliability, customer experience, and preventing failures-not merely detecting them. They write clean, maintainable production-quality code; understand how modern systems fail; and use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to improve test design, implementation, debugging, and analysis. They also understand that AI does not replace test strategy, domain reasoning, independent validation, or engineering accountability.\nThis is a hands-on quality engineering role: automation and test-platform engineering are core to how we scale quality, but you will also personally perform functional and exploratory testing when needed to understand the product, validate risk, and support release decisions.\nIMPORTANT NOTE: This is an in-office position located in Trivandrum, requiring attendance 4+ days per week. Relocation assistance is not provided for this role.\nIn this role you can expect to\nLead with quality judgment: Challenge requirements and assumptions; distinguish verification (does it work as specified?) from validation (does it solve the user problem?); identify failure modes, edge cases, and business risks beyond happy paths.\n\nTest from the customer’s perspective: Map real user workflows, anticipate misuse and operational edge cases, and assess real-world impact; partner early with Product and Engineering to refine acceptance criteria and prevent defects.\n\nDesign risk-based test strategy: Select the right mix of unit, API, contract, integration, UI, end-to-end, exploratory, regression, and non-functional testing based on product risk, feedback speed, confidence needs, and maintenance cost.\n\nBuild durable quality engineering systems: Create reusable tooling, libraries, test-data capabilities, environment utilities, CI integrations, and diagnostic/observability patterns that improve quality for the team and can be adopted by adjacent teams.\n\nPerform hands-on product investigation: Conduct functional and exploratory testing of complex workflows, integrations, and edge cases when it provides the fastest or highest-confidence signal; translate discoveries into clear defects, risk assessments, and durable automated coverage where appropriate.\n\nLead quality-risk decisions: Identify, analyze, and prioritize product risks; derive test conditions and appropriate coverage depth; communicate residual risk and help the team decide what “good enough” means for each release.\n\nTo be successful in this role you bring:\n7-10 years of progressive experience in software engineering, SDET, quality engineering, developer productivity, or test-platform engineering, including 5+ years building and evolving automation or test infrastructure.\n\nEvidence of owning an automation framework, test platform, internal developer tool, CI quality gate, or engineering system from architecture through adoption, operational support, and iterative improvement.\n\nExperience testing modern systems beyond a single web UI: APIs, asynchronous workflows, distributed services, event-driven systems, data flows, third-party integrations, authentication/authorization, and failure recovery.\n\nStrong hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript preferred, with the ability to explain trade-offs among UI, API, contract, component, integration, end-to-end, performance, resilience, and exploratory testing.\n\nExperience making automated testing trustworthy at scale: parallelization, isolation, deterministic test data, environment provisioning, observability, flaky-test diagnosis, retry policy design, quarantine/remediation workflows, and actionable reporting.\n\nStrong CI/CD experience, including test selection or test-tiering strategies, PR quality gates, artifact collection, failure triage, and reducing feedback time without weakening coverage.\n\nAbility to design and validate APIs and service boundaries using techniques such as schema validation, consumer/provider contract testing, mocks/stubs/fakes, service virtualization, and backward-compatibility testing.\n\nQuality Mindset & Product Thinking\nClearly articulates and applies the difference between verification and validation, with examples of when each shaped their test approach and delivery decisions.\n\nProven ability to analyze requirements and designs to uncover gaps, ambiguous behavior, and high-risk areas before implementation, using reviews, checklists, and structured quality risk analysis.\n\nDemonstrated skill in designing tests around real user journeys, business workflows, and failure scenarios rather than just API endpoints or UI components in isolation.\n\nExperience using risk-based testing to prioritize which areas to test, at what depth, and with which techniques when time and resources are constrained.\n\nHabitually challenges assumptions from developers, PMs, and stakeholders in a collaborative way that improves the product and reduces downstream defects.\n\nEnsures test failures produce useful evidence-logs, network traces, screenshots/video where relevant, and clear failure classification.\n\nNice to haves:\nHands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent to accelerate coding, refactoring, test design, failure analysis, documentation, and exploratory investigation.\n\nDemonstrated ability to evaluate AI-generated test code for correctness, determinism, maintainability, meaningful assertions, security/privacy implications, and false confidence.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6892,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":7,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Relocation assistance"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Artificial Intelligence","Master Data Management","AI Agents"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-26T08:53:17Z"}],"liveness":{"score":49,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.66,"p_room":0.75,"age_days":17,"expected_fill_days":23,"reasons":["conf:4","win:late"],"computed_at":"2026-09-28T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/propel-software-senior-sdet","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/propel-software-senior-sdet.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-28T22:46:45Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":419,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4581,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-09-29T00:00:00Z"}}}
