You’ll be accountable for delivery, technical quality, and the growth of your team, working closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and business leaders. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-moving, post-Series A environment. You’ll stay close enough to the technology to make sound architectural calls, while spending most of your time building a high-performing team and removing obstacles.\nKey Responsibilities\nWhat You’ll Own\n\nDelivery and Technical Leadership\nOwn predictable, high-quality delivery of your team’s roadmap, from planning and estimation through launch and post-launch operations.\nPartner with tech leads on architecture and design decisions for matching, order management, pricing, settlement, and real-time data systems.\nUphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, scalability, security, and observability.\nOwn production health. Drive incident response, postmortems, and follow-through on reliability and latency improvements.\nBalance feature velocity, technical debt, and platform investment, and make the tradeoffs visible to stakeholders.\nPeople and Team Development\nDirectly manage ~7 engineers, including IC1 through IC4 levels, with regular 1:1s, feedback, and performance reviews.\nSet clear expectations by level and coach engineers toward promotion and career goals.\nLead hiring: define roles, run interview loops, and close strong candidates.\nIdentify skill gaps and create mentorship and training opportunities.\nBuild an inclusive, accountable, and collaborative team culture, including across remote, offshore, and globally distributed teammates.\nCross-Functional Partnership\nPartner with Product to turn business goals into clear scope, requirements, and timelines.\nWork with Compliance, Risk, and Legal to build products that meet CFTC regulatory and operational requirements.\nCommunicate progress, risks, and milestones to executives and stakeholders, with early escalation of risks and no surprises.\nCollaborate with other Engineering Managers and Tech Leads on cross-team initiatives, shared platforms, and dependencies.\n Process and Execution\nRun lightweight, effective agile practices (sprint planning, check-ins, retros) and improve them continuously.\nDefine and track team health and delivery metrics, such as cycle time, deployment frequency, and incident and change failure rates.\nDrive improvements in tooling, CI/CD, and developer productivity.\nMake build-versus-buy and prioritization decisions with clear reasoning and documentation.\nSkills, Knowledge and Expertise\n What We’re Looking For\n7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineering teams (or leading teams as a tech lead with strong management experience)\nStrong technical background building scalable, low-latency, real-time systems in production, ideally in fintech, trading or exchange, crypto, or other high-throughput transactional environments\nHands-on familiarity with modern backend stacks (Go, Java, C++, or Python), microservices, event-driven architecture (Kafka), and REST and WebSocket APIs\nExperience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD\nWorking knowledge of observability and incident management (New Relic, Datadog, Kibana, or similar)\nProven record of delivering complex projects on time while managing scope, risk, and stakeholder expectations\nDemonstrated ability to coach, develop, and retain engineers, and to give direct, constructive feedback\nExperience managing distributed or offshore teams\nStrong communicator who can explain complex technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)\nProactive, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity, with a strong sense of ownership\n Nice to Have\nExperience in prediction markets, sports betting, or regulated exchanges (CFTC or similar)\nFamiliarity with risk,
