Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant.\nOur concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach.\nTurning these designs into a functioning fusion power plant requires excellence and ownership across every discipline, from physics and engineering to software, manufacturing, law, and business functions.\nBY JOINING OUR TEAM YOU’LL GET TO\nBuild the machine that builds the machine. Join TechOps at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, we’re building the production system that will enable commercial fusion. The Production lines, tooling, and processes are being developed from the ground up; you'll create the ways of working, not inherit them.\n\nWork at the frontier of manufacturing technology. Bring your creativity to evaluate, qualify, and deploy processes with no industry playbook, every component you build and every process you shape goes directly into the core of the stellarator magnet technology.\n\nDo work that matters, and see it grow. The hardware you build is the product and your career grows with it, from prototyping and process development through quality and industrialization, alongside exceptional colleagues from around the world.\n\nMake an impact you can point to. In a small, fast-moving team, your calls on equipment, quality, and process directly shape how a world-class deep-tech company produces superconducting magnets with results visible on the shop floor, not buried in a slidedeck.\n\nYOUR IMPACT\nDesign and build the machines, fixtures, and tooling used to manufacture HTS magnet coils.\nDevelop the manufacturing processes that turn new equipment into a repeatable production line.\nWork hands-on with technicians to build, debug, and commission equipment on the shop floor.\nOwn equipment and process development together, from clean-slate concept through production readiness.\nWHAT YOU WILL DO\nDesign new manufacturing equipment and fixtures for magnet manufacturing; from concept generation and trade studies through the whole equipment life cycle.\nPerform proof-of-concept calculations, benchtop testing, and tolerance stack-up analysis to validate design decisions before committing to build.\nOwn subsystem designs, BOMs (Bills of Materials), specifications, and drawings, and manage changes as designs mature.\nDevelop, coordinate and document assembly procedures, commissioning and operation for the equipment you design.\nSupport technicians during equipment build, assembly, and commissioning.\nSupporting the production team troubleshooting issues and iterating on design or process as needed.\nDrive non-conformances to root cause and turn findings into concrete process or design improvements.\nProvide DFM (Design for Manufacturing)/DFA (Design for Assembly) input to magnet design engineers to keep coil designs manufacturable.\nSelect and manage external vendors and machine shops for components, subassemblies, and fabricated parts.\nRecommend equipment, tooling, or facility improvements needed to scale manufacturing capacity as production ramps.\nParticipate in design reviews, and communicate design and process decisions clearly to cross-functional partners.\nWHO YOU ARE\n4-6 years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering, ideally building complex electromechanical systems, automated equipment, or precision assemblies.\nStrong CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred) including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and drawing creation for fabrication and inspection.\nExperience designing parts and equipment across multiple manufacturing processes: machining, sheet metal, welding, fabricated assemblies.\nHands-on experience building, assembling, and debugging equipment or prototype, not just designing on paper.\nSolid technical writing skills for work instructions, assembly procedures, and design documentation.\nComfort with ambiguity and rapidly changing requirements in a fast-paced startup environment.\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.\nNice to have:\nExposure to automation systems, control cabinets, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), or industrial sensors.\nExperience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools (SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys) for structural or thermal analysis.\nFamiliarity with cryogenics, vacuum systems, or superconducting/high-precision electromechanical hardware.\nExperience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management)/MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) tools for BOM and change management.\nRapid prototyping skills: 3D printing, mill, lathe, or hand tools.\nINTERVIEW PROCESS\nRecruiter Interview (30-60 min)\n\nTechnical Screening (30 min)\n\nTechnical Panel (3x60 min)\n\nCEO call (30 min)\n\nThis role sits at L2/L3 of our framework, please inquire during the recruitment process for further information\nAt Proxima Fusion, our mission is bold: making limitless clean energy a reality. To get there, we need a high-performing, diverse team that brings different perspectives, challenges assumptions, and builds together with purpose. We know that diversity of thought and experience leads to better ideas, stronger execution, and a more resilient team. We don’t look at how you identify, what you look like, who you choose to worship or what ethnicity you are. We care about what you can bring to the table.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5948,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":4,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Nuclear Energy"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-28T12:40:17Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.632,"p_room":1,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":84,"reasons":["conf:3","stale_co","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/proxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/proxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-03T01:05:45Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1177,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-04T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":8931},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=8931"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fproxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fproxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fproxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/proxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fproxima-fusion-mechanical-engineer-equipment-engineering"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3396432}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"proximafusion.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3396432},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
