Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant.\nOur concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach.\nTurning these designs into a functioning fusion power plant requires excellence and ownership across every discipline, from physics and engineering to software, manufacturing, law, and business functions.\nBY JOINING OUR TEAM YOU’LL GET TO\nBuild the machine that builds the machine. Join TechOps at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, we’re building the production system that will enable commercial fusion. The Production lines, tooling, and processes are being developed from the ground up; you'll create the ways of working, not inherit them.\n\nWork at the frontier of manufacturing technology. Bring your creativity to evaluate, qualify, and deploy processes with no industry playbook, every component you build and every process you shape goes directly into the core of the stellarator magnet technology.\n\nDo work that matters, and see it grow. The hardware you build is the product and your career grows with it, from prototyping and process development through quality and industrialization, alongside exceptional colleagues from around the world.\n\nMake an impact you can point to. In a small, fast-moving team, your calls on equipment, quality, and process directly shape how a world-class deep-tech company produces superconducting magnets with results visible on the shop floor, not buried in a slidedeck.\n\nYOUR IMPACT\nOwn the controls engineering for new magnet factory equipment supporting coil winding, impregnation, joining, and end-of-line testing.\nArchitect control systems and develop PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) software, primarily on Beckhoff platforms.\nCommission and validate manufacturing equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and predictable operation.\nPartner with mechanical, process, and manufacturing engineers to translate production requirements into robust, well-documented automation solutions.\nWHAT YOU WILL DO\nParticipate in initial equipment conceptual development for new magnet manufacturing cells, balancing process requirements, layout, cost, and lead time.\n\nArchitect control system architecture and electrical schematics for new equipment, including sensor/actuator selection and panel layout coordination with electrical designers.\n\nWrite, debug, and maintain PLC programs (Structured Text, IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) 61131-3) on Beckhoff TwinCAT, with an emphasis on code that's organized, documented, and reusable.\n\nSpecify and implement field network topology (e.g., EtherCAT, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, OPC-UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture)) connecting equipment, sensors, and upstream/downstream systems.\n\nSet up and tune servo drives and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) for precision motion control on winding, handling, and assembly equipment.\n\nDesign intuitive HMI (Human-Machine Interface)/SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) screens for operator use and troubleshooting.\n\nCommission new equipment end-to-end: FAT (Factory Acceptance Test)/SAT (Site Acceptance Test), installation, integration, and initial process validation.\n\nUse hand tools and diagnostic instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) for hands-on electrical troubleshooting during build and commissioning.\n\nImplement control-reliable safety systems in line with relevant machine safety and electrical standards.\n\nDocument control architecture, code, and equipment operation to support handover and future sustaining work.\n\nCollaborate with manufacturing, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure controls solutions match the realities of magnet coil production.\n\nWHO YOU ARE\nIn-depth knowledge of Beckhoff controls systems (TwinCAT 3).\n\nGood Structured Text (IEC 61131-3) programming skills.\n\nAble to use common hand tools and diagnostic instruments such as multimeters.\n\nProficiency in field network topology, both theory and practical applications.\n\n2-5 years of experience in controls engineering for manufacturing or automation equipment, ideally on electromechanical or precision systems.\n\nExperience commissioning servo drives/VFDs and integrating sensors, actuators, and safety devices.\n\nFamiliarity with HMI/SCADA platforms (TwinCAT HMI, WinCC, Ignition, or similar).\n\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.\n\nNice to have:\nExperience with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) electrical drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).\n\nScripting experience (Python, SQL) for data acquisition or MES (Manufacturing Execution System)/database integration.\n\nMachine vision experience.\n\nGreenfield or startup equipment commissioning experience.\n\nWorking knowledge of relevant electrical and machine safety standards (e.g., EN (European Norm) 60204-1, IEC 61439, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 13849).\n\nINTERVIEW PROCESS\nRecruiter Interview (30-60 min)\n\nTechnical Screening (30 min)\n\nTechnical Panel (3x60 min)\n\nCEO call (30 min)\n\nThis role sits at L2/L3 of our framework, please inquire during the recruitment process for further information\nAt Proxima Fusion, our mission is bold: making limitless clean energy a reality. To get there, we need a high-performing, diverse team that brings different perspectives, challenges assumptions, and builds together with purpose. We know that diversity of thought and experience leads to better ideas, stronger execution, and a more resilient team. We don’t look at how you identify, what you look like, who you choose to worship or what ethnicity you are. We care about what you can bring to the table.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6320,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":2,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Nuclear Energy"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-05T14:04:27Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":34,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.572,"p_room":0.6,"age_days":68,"expected_fill_days":84,"reasons":["conf:3","stale_co","velocity","win:late","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/proximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/proximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-03T01:48:23Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2398,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-04T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":8931},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=8931"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fproximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fproximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fproximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/proximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fproximafusion-industrial-controls-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":286023}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"proximafusion.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":286023},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
