This position will play a key technical and project-delivery role on assignments for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), the New York State Thruway Authority, municipalities, and other public agencies.\nThe successful candidate will contribute directly to highway and roadway design, coordinate multidisciplinary project activities, guide junior staff, and help ensure that plans, specifications, estimates, and other deliverables meet client requirements, applicable standards, project schedules, and budgets.\nKey Responsibilities\nPerform and coordinate highway and transportation design assignments from preliminary engineering through final design and construction support.\nDevelop and review roadway plans, profiles, typical sections, alignments, grading, drainage, pavement, guiderail, signing, pavement marking, maintenance and protection of traffic, and related design elements.\nPrepare and review engineering calculations, design reports, technical memoranda, quantities, engineer’s estimates, specifications, and contract documents.\nApply NYSDOT design criteria, standard specifications, engineering instructions, Highway Design Manual requirements, CADD standards, and other applicable agency guidance.\nUse Bentley OpenRoads Designer and related Bentley applications to develop and review highway design models and contract plans.\nCoordinate design activities with bridge, traffic, drainage, environmental, utility, survey, geotechnical, construction, and other project disciplines.\nAssist project managers with work planning, staffing, schedules, budgets, progress tracking, and client coordination.\nIdentify technical issues and develop practical, constructible, and cost-effective solutions.\nPerform interdisciplinary reviews and participate in quality-control reviews at established project milestones.\nProvide technical direction and mentoring to engineers, designers, and CADD staff.\nReview the work of junior staff for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.\nParticipate in field investigations, project meetings, design reviews, and construction-phase support activities.\nCommunicate effectively with clients, agency representatives, subconsultants, contractors, and internal project teams.\nAssist with scopes of work, fee estimates, proposals, and interviews when requested.\nPreferred Qualifications\nDirect experience working on NYSDOT highway design projects.\nFamiliarity with NYSDOT project-development procedures, design deliverables, CADD standards, specifications, and electronic submission requirements.\nExperience with Bentley ProjectWise or similar document-management and collaboration platforms.\nExperience developing 3D roadway models and model-based design deliverables.\nExperience with public-agency or municipally funded roadway reconstruction, rehabilitation, safety, or complete-streets projects.\nExperience coordinating utility, drainage, traffic, environmental, and right-of-way considerations.\nExperience leading design tasks or small project teams and mentoring junior staff.\nConstruction support or construction inspection experience.\nFamiliarity with federal-aid project requirements and applicable FHWA guidance.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nProducing
