For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.\nJOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS\nWe are searching for an undergraduate student to join our Cyber & Information Security Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University to assist our Cybersecurity Assurance teams. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).\nARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.\nThe successful candidate’s typical duties will include:\nCompliance enforcement\n\nSIEM configuration and security administration\n\nVulnerability Management\n\nAudit and security checks\n\nAutomation and process improvement\n\nCompliance documentation updates\n\nTechnical writing in policy, process, and procedures\n\nHardware and Software reviews\n\nRequired skills and experience include:\nExcellent communication, customer service, technical writing, and organizational skills\n\nPreferred skills and experience include:\nConfiguration, installation, and support of desktop computing equipment as well as programming\n\nMicrosoft Windows and Linux systems in a domain environment\n\nFamiliarity with defensive cyber tools such as Firewalls, SIEM, XDR/EDR, CASB, FIM, IDS/IPS\n\nNetworking fundamentals\n\nSystem administration and troubleshooting\n\nScripting (bash, python, etc.)\n\nCompliance or auditing\n\nNIST documentation (e.g. 800-171, 800-53)\n\nSTIG\n\nStudents studying within the field of Information and Cyber Security, Information Science and Technology, or Computer Science science/Engineering are encouraged to apply.\nThe successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters, and 40 hours/week over the summer. This is a paid internship opportunity located at ARL in State College (primarily operating out of a Science Park Road location).
