The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

The Department of Performing Arts at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions in Dance. We seek a skilled and experienced dance educator and artist who is collaborative, team-oriented, and committed to excellence in undergraduate education, artistic development, and ensemble performance.

Responsibilities:

• Teach each undergraduate Dance courses, which may include Folk and Ballroom Dance, Tap Dance, Body Mechanics and Rhythmic Activities, and other courses according to departmental needs and the candidate’s qualifications.
• Support rehearsals, performances, and activities of the Classic Dance Ensemble and other departmental dance productions.
• Collaborate with Dance and Performing Arts faculty in support of performances, curricular initiatives, and student success.
• Keep records, post grades (mid-term & final), submit attendance.
• Mentor and support students in developing their technical, artistic, performance, and professional skills.
• Post and maintain regular office hours.
• Performs other duties assigned by department head.

Required Education & Experience:

• Master’s degree in Dance Education, Fine Arts, or a closely related field; or an appropriate combination of professional experience and credentials in the discipline.
• One to two years experience in applicable field.
• Demonstrated experience in dance performance, choreography, and/or instruction.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student development.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to work effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous teaching experience at the collegiate or advanced pre-professional level.
• Professional performance, choreography, or dance education experience.
• Experience working with dance ensembles and productions.
• Ability to teach multiple dance forms and movement-based courses.
• Experience mentoring and developing undergraduate dancers.
