The role
We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our IT team and help develop, support and maintain QA Higher Education’s Azure-based data platform.
You’ll work with cloud technologies, data pipelines and infrastructure automation to ensure data is delivered reliably, securely and efficiently across the organisation. You’ll contribute to the development of scalable data solutions while helping to automate operational processes using modern engineering practices and tooling.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong grounding in data engineering who enjoys combining hands-on technical delivery with problem solving, optimisation and continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
- Developing, maintaining and supporting data pipelines and data integration solutions.
- Building and optimising ETL/ELT processes to move and transform data from multiple source systems.
- Supporting the ongoing development of data platforms within Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
- Assisting with the design and implementation of scalable and reliable data architectures.
- Monitoring data workloads and identifying opportunities to improve performance and efficiency.
- Investigating and resolving data quality, integration and performance issues.
- Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation for data solutions and processes.
- Supporting reliable, secure and maintainable data engineering solutions.
- Contributing to continuous improvement across the team.
About you
You’ll be an analytical and solutions-focused Data Engineer who is comfortable working with cloud-based technologies and modern data platforms.
We’re particularly interested in someone who can bring:
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory and other Azure data technologies.
- Experience building, supporting or maintaining data pipelines and integration solutions.
- Strong SQL skills and a good understanding of relational databases.
- Experience with PySpark and Python.
- Experience with Azure Functions and Logic Apps.
- Experience using Azure DevOps, GitHub or similar source control platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD deployment practices.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- A good understanding of data engineering principles, ETL/ELT methodologies and cloud security and governance.
- The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
You’ll have a relevant technical degree, apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience.
Relevant professional certifications would be advantageous, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Database, Azure Administration, Azure Development or equivalent AWS or Google Cloud data engineering certifications.
