Qantas (ASX: QAN) is the flag carrier airline of Australia and one of the world's oldest continually operating aviation groups, headquartered in Mascot, Sydney. Founded in 1920 as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited (QANTAS), the enterprise has grown into Australia's largest domestic and international airline group. The company operates a dual-brand strategy serving two primary customer segments: full-service domestic, international, and regional operations under the core Qantas brand (including QantasLink), and low-cost carrier operations under Jetstar.
  • At Qantas, our teams come together to create new and unique experiences for our customers.
  • A fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that focuses on cutting-edge technology and engineering principles.
  • Full-time and permanent position based at our new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide.

Join Qantas in our brand-new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide, where you’ll play a key role in shaping high-quality digital experiences that truly meet customer needs. By embedding robust testing strategies and automation practices, you’ll help ensure software reliability, performance, and security. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering seamless experiences that strengthen customer trust and satisfaction.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our Technology team. In this role, you will be instrumental in embedding quality engineering practices across the software delivery lifecycle, ensuring our applications perform at the highest standards of reliability, scalability and customer experience.

Working within agile squads, you will contribute to both manual and automated testing, strengthen our test frameworks, and collaborate closely with engineers, product owners and stakeholders to deliver innovative and high-quality digital solutions.

Key Responsibilities and What You'll Bring

  • Bring 6+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Software Testing or Test Automation roles within Agile delivery environments
  • Define and own the quality engineering strategy and automation roadmap for your domain, setting the standards other engineers work to
  • Design and build scalable automation frameworks using Playwright, Cypress or similar, embedding these into CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable continuous delivery
  • Champion BDD and shift-left testing practices across squads, influencing story design, acceptance criteria and definition of done before code is written
  • Lead test strategy for APIs, microservices and distributed systems, including contract testing (e.g. Pact) and API test automation (e.g. REST Assured) across service boundaries
  • Mentor and uplift engineers' automation and testing capability, reviewing automation code and setting the quality bar for the team
  • Lead quality initiatives across multiple teams, partnering with Tech Leads, Product Managers and Engineering Leadership to identify systemic quality risks and drive their resolution
  • Drive root cause analysis on recurring or high-impact defects, translating findings into process or framework improvements
  • Establish and evolve test data strategy, environment strategy and observability practices (e.g. Splunk, Datadog) to support production confidence
  • Represent quality engineering in architecture and design discussions, ensuring testability is designed in, not bolted on
  • Strong experience with test case management (e.g. Jira Zephyr) and cross-browser testing tools such as LambdaTest or BrowserStack
  • Exposure to cloud-native applications and modern observability platforms is highly desirable
