Join us as a Mechanical Design Team Lead at our Malvern site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.\nThe Role\n As a Mechanical Design Team Lead, you’ll lead a team of Mechanical Design Engineers, whilst operating as a recognised Principal Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for delivering complex engineering solutions, technical governance and customer engagement whilst balancing technical authority with team leadership responsibilities.\nDay-to-day, you’ll work across one or more projects, delivering your own portfolio of work. You will likely have a broad experience of delivering Mechanical Design Engineering artefacts and or a deep specialism relevant to product development in an industrial or defence context. Through your Team Lead role, you will assimilate a broad view of programmes, technical challenges, future needs and the business operational context.\nYour responsibilities will include:\nAdvising on suitable deployments for your team, engaging with Chief Engineers, Programme leaders, Resource Managers and related stakeholders\nEngaging with team communicating policy and required actions, eliciting feedback, delivering on actions or escalating as appropriate\nManaging team strategy including alignment to other teams, internal customers, stakeholders, succession and resilience\nDiscussing and tracking individuals’ goals, performance including gathering feedback with regular 121s and end of year calibration activities\nMentoring, managing peer reviews and advising on professional best practice both directly and through the team\nProactively supporting recruitment, onboarding, integration, inclusion and cultural leadership\nEssential experience of the Mechanical Design Team Lead:\nRobust understanding of Mechanical Design Engineering and its application in the development of products\nOperating as a Lead / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer on complex equipment development programmes leading Mechanical Design Engineering activity\nKnowledge of engineering toolsets for managing complex systems developments\nApplying Mechanical Design Engineering from 1st principles in line with Technical Excellence and Principal Mechanical Design Engineering frameworks\nProven listening/mentoring/coaching and respected communication skills with the nuance to consider the bigger picture with a willingness to seek guidance and advice (where needed)\nBuilding effective, high performing teams and developing others, including addressing behaviours where necessary\nEssential qualifications for theMechanical Design Team Lead:\nIdeally a Chartered Engineer or with equivalent demonstrable experience\nWe value difference and we don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.\nThis role is 37 hours per week based at ourMalvern site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.\nMalvern\nThe Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities.
