This is a hands-on leadership position overseeing work involving derailment response, specialty lifting, railcar repair, and track maintenance.\nThe Assistant Manager will work closely with Supervisors and field teams, help resolve operational challenges, maintain safety standards, and coordinate projects in fast-paced and time-sensitive environments.\nKey Responsibilities\nGuide and support Supervisors across multiple field assignments.\nCoordinate work activities, track project progress, and help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.\nProvide hands-on leadership, coaching, and problem-solving in the field.\nRespond to emergency service calls when needed.\nVisit job sites regularly to review safety, quality, productivity, and potential risks.\nCommunicate with railroad customers, field partners, and regulatory agencies.\nTrain, mentor, and develop employees while assisting with hiring, performance reviews, and ongoing coaching.\nAssist with workforce planning, budgeting, and forecasting.\nMaintain accurate payroll, labor-hour, equipment-use, and project records.\nMonitor equipment condition and coordinate repairs, maintenance, or replacement as necessary.\nSupport customer relationships and business development through industry events and professional engagement.\nEnsure field operations follow DOT and FRA regulations and applicable company standards.\nQualifications & Skills\nExperience in railroad, heavy equipment, or related field operations preferred.\nStrong understanding of DOT and FRA regulations.\nCDL Class A or B preferred.\nPrevious leadership experience managing field-based teams.\nExperience operating heavy equipment such as cranes, trucks, and excavators.\nAbility to read and interpret crane load charts and rigging requirements.\nStrong communication skills with the ability to lead, coach, and influence team members.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn operational software systems.\nValid driver's license with a clean driving record.\nAbility to successfully complete required safety and certification programs.\nWork Requirements\nFrequent overnight travel.\nOn-call availability with the ability to report within 1 hour when called.\nWork outdoors in all weather conditions and in physically demanding railroad environments.\nExtended hours, including weekends and holidays, as operational needs require.\nHands-on work involving walking and working around railroad equipment and active field environments.\nAbility to lift up to 50
