This role combines mechanical design, applications engineering, project coordination, customer interaction, manufacturing support, and field troubleshooting.\nThe engineer will take projects from initial concept through design, production, testing, deployment, and ongoing product support. Experience with heavy equipment, cranes, mobile equipment, or industrial machinery is highly valued.\nWhat You'll Do\nMechanical Design & Engineering\nDevelop new mechanical equipment and modify existing designs.\nCreate practical solutions through CAD modeling, reverse engineering, redesign, prototyping, and field testing.\nPerform engineering calculations and use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs.\nImprove equipment performance, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost.\nMaintain standard equipment designs and related engineering documentation.\nPrepare drawings, calculations, bills of materials, and design records.\nApplications & Project Management\nManage engineering projects from concept through manufacturing, testing, implementation, and lifecycle support.\nCoordinate with customers, vendors, suppliers, manufacturing, operations, and other engineering teams.\nSupport equipment rebuilds and refurbishment projects, including inspections, repair planning, upgrades, testing, and delivery.\nHelp ensure equipment meets customer specifications, engineering requirements, safety standards, and applicable regulations.\nManage multiple projects and changing priorities while maintaining project schedules.\nField & Customer Support\nWork directly with customers to understand technical requirements and resolve engineering issues.\nProvide troubleshooting, field inspections, and on-site technical support.\nAssist with emergency response and field operations when needed.\nTravel to customer sites, vendor locations, and field projects as required.\nSupport manufacturing and field teams during equipment testing, installation, and deployment.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\nProficiency with SolidWorks or comparable parametric CAD software.\nWorking knowledge of FEA and the ability to verify results through engineering calculations.\nUnderstanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation.\nStrong analytical, project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication abilities.\nComfortable working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.\nAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.\nValid driver's license.\nWillingness to travel approximately 10%.\nPreferred Experience\nEIT or PE certification.\nCSWA or CSWP SolidWorks certification.\nExperience designing or supporting heavy equipment, cranes, mobile equipment, or industrial machinery.\nKnowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.\nExperience taking products from engineering through manufacturing and field deployment.\nFamiliarity with OSHA, ASME, AWS, AAR, or other applicable industry standards.\nWork Environment\nCombination of office, manufacturing, and field environments.\nOccasional climbing on equipment during inspections, testing, and troubleshooting.\nAbility to lift tools, components, or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.\nAbility to sit, stand, walk, and communicate throughout the workday.\nMay require extended hours or emergency response outside normal working hours.\nMust be able to work safely around industrial equipment and active field operations.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3923,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Professional Services","Audit","Supply Chain"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-23T05:17:20Z"}],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":7,"reasons":["conf:0","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-23T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":95000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/qualdoc-mechanical-applications-engineer-chesterfield-va-2","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/qualdoc-mechanical-applications-engineer-chesterfield-va-2.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-24T05:44:41Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers"}}
