Its offerings include the most energy-efficient quantum computers for data centers, full-stack quantum computing solutions accessible via the cloud, and algorithm access services for academic and industrial customers. Following a pragmatic, step-by-step roadmap, Quandela has been deploying industrial-grade systems since 2023 while developing future generations of fault-tolerant quantum computers capable of scaling through the integration of thousands of photonic components. Quandela is committed to making quantum computing accessible to all in order to address the most complex industrial and societal challenges.\nLearn more at: Quandela | Leading Photonic Quantum Computing Solutions\nAbout this position:\nWe are looking for a R&D Engineer - Optical Systems & Single-Photon Source Lithography to support the development of novel designs of Single Photon Sources (SPS) for Quandela’s SPS R&D department.\nThis position combines advanced optical experiments, hands-on R&D, and manufacturing engineering. The SPSL Engineer will play a key role in the fabrication of new designs of SPSs, that will be further tested by colleagues on characterization testbenches.\nThe role will have a strong focus on in-situ localization of quantum dots (QDs) at cryogenic temperatures and lithography over the localized QDs with laser writing techniques. The successful candidate will work closely with our SPS R&D team, SPS production team, fabrication engineers, equipment owners, and cleanroom operators to improve performance of the SPSs and successfully transfer R&D advances to our production mainline.\nThis is a highly hands-on position requiring a strong understanding of optics and semiconductor fabrication, rigorous experimental methodology, and the ability to investigate complex interactions between process parameters and device performance.\n\nKey responsibilities\nImproving SPS performance\nDevelop, optimize and stabilize QD positioning and laser lithography process on R&D “experimental” epitaxial wafer growths with high-performance potential. \nContribute to the development of GUIs and automation software in the Python programming language. \nContribute to the development of fully automated QD-positioning and lithography tools on complex, “experimental” epitaxial wafer growths. \nDefine process windows, recipes, operating conditions and acceptance criteria. \nImprove process repeatability, reproducibility, robustness, and within-wafer / wafer-to-wafer homogeneity. \nR&D to Production Transfer\nPrepare processes and equipment for increasing wafer sizes, batch sizes, and production volumes. \nAssess manufacturability, scalability and process risks before transferring to production. \nDefine qualification plans and acceptance criteria before releasing new or modified processes to production. \nSupport technology transfer through clear documentation, operator training, and technical communication. \nDetect process drifts, investigate deviations, and define corrective and preventive actions. \nEquipment & Production Support\nContribute to the development of novel fabrication setups, both on the hardware and software side. \nWork closely with equipment suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical issues. \nContribute to a safe, disciplined and efficient cleanroom environment. \nProcess Characterization & Data Analysis\nDevelop appropriate data analysis tools to identify process sensitivities, and optimization opportunities. \nSearch and analyze scientific and technical literature to support experiments development and troubleshooting. \nDocumentation & Communication\nEnsure frequent and clear reporting of experimental results, risks and improvement actions. \nCommunicate effectively with colleagues from different technical backgrounds and levels of experience. \n\nRequirements\nRequired Qualifications & Experience :\nMaster's degree or PhD in Optics, Materials Science, Physics, Micro/Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. \nHands-on experience in design, assembling, and alignment of optical systems. \nHands-on experience in design, assembling, and operation of electronic devices \nPython programming language fluency. \nExcellent attention to detail and a rigorous approach to experimental work. \nStrong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills. \nAbility to independently investigate technical problems using experimental data and scientific literature. \nStrong communication and documentation skills. \nFluent English, both written and spoken. \nPreferred Qualifications :\nExperience in development of GUIs with the Python programming language. \nGood understanding of quantum physics in general and more specifically of quantum optics. \nExperience with process industrialization and transfer from R&D to production. \nExperience with III-V semiconductor devices, particularly AlGaAs-based photonic structures, resonators, or VCSEL-type technologies. \nWe are looking for someone who combines the mindset of an R&D engineer with the rigor of a manufacturing/process engineer.\nThe ideal candidate is comfortable developing new systems where all parameters are not yet fully understood, while also being able to transform experimental processes into stable, controlled and documented production workflows.\nYou should enjoy working directly in the cleanroom, analyzing data, developing Python projects, solving complex fabrication problems, and collaborating across R&D and production teams.\nBenefits\nCompetitive salary, flexible based on your experience \nProfit-sharing & company savings plan\n100% health coverage (Alan)\n50% transport reimbursement or sustainable mobility bonus\nMeal vouchers (Swile), Gymlib fitness support\nChildcare assistance & referral bonuses (€1,000-€2,000)\nWhat we offer:\nA meaningful role with real ownership, from day one\nA team eager to collaborate and grow with you\nDaily exposure to the entire quantum stack - from high-level APIs to low-level firmware, and everything in between.\nProcess\nTalent Acquisition Interview (30' - 45')\nHiring Manager Interview (45')\n Use Case / Practical Assessment : The use case will consist of a simple practical exercise focused on the alignment of an optical bench. The assessment will take place in the cleanroom, they are not considered PPE for this exercise.\nMeeting with the teams \n2 reference check\nOffer \n(This process is provided for guidance only and may evolve depending on the roles)\nAt Quandela, we believe that the strength of our team is the plurality of experiences, perspectives, and journeys.
