Call us family!\nAbout this Role\nAs a Substation Apparatus Test Technician, you will perform testing and maintenance of medium and high voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical apparatus in utility substation environments.\nWhat You'll Do\nPerform and lead advanced testing, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of substation apparatus, including but not limited to:\nPower transformers\nCircuit breakers (oil, SF₆, and vacuum)\nInstrument transformers (CTs and PTs)\nDisconnect switches and grounding switches\nBus work and associated substation equipment\nLead commissioning activities for new or upgraded substation equipment and ensure compliance with\nproject specifications and industry standards. \nPerform and oversee advanced electrical testing independently, including but not limited to:\nInsulation resistance (Megger) testing\nPower factor / dissipation factor testing\nTransformer turns ratio (TTR) testing\nContact resistance testing\nTiming and travel analysis\nFunctional, mechanical, and control system operational checks\nAnalyze complex test results, diagnose equipment issues, and develop corrective action\nLead the setup, operation, verification, and teardown of test equipment in accordance with company\nand manufacturer procedures. \nPrepare, review, and approve detailed field reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness\nin accordance with company and customer requirements. \nFollow and enforce all company safety policies, utility safety rules, and applicable OSHA requirements. \nLead job briefings, tailboard meetings, and hazard assessments. \nUse required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and promote a strong safety culture in\nthe field. \nMaintain test equipment, tools, and vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition. \nProvide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 technicians. \nCoordinate field activities with engineers, project managers, clients, and utility personnel. \nTravel to job sites as required, including overnight travel and extended assignments. \nWork outdoors in substations under varying weather and environmental conditions. \nMaintain a professional demeanor when interacting with clients, contractors, and utility personnel. \nCommunicate clearly and professionally (written and/or verbal) regarding safety matters (i.e., tailboard\nmeetings), security or environmental incidents, safety violations, or near misses. \nCoordinate personal lodging, travel, and transportation arrangements as needed. \nComplete time entry, expense reports, and field service job documentation using company-approved\nadministrative tools or software. \nWhat You'll Bring\nQualifications\nPerform duties in accordance with customer, industry, and corporate laws, regulations, and standards. \nPerform additional duties as assigned by the Substation Operations Management Team. \nExperience performing electrical apparatus testing, commissioning, or maintenance.\nWorking knowledge of substation and power distribution equipment.\nExperience with transformers, breakers, switchgear, relays, CTs, and PTs.\nFamiliarity with electrical testing equipment such as Megger, Doble, Vanguard, or Omicron.\nAbility to read electrical drawings, schematics, and protection diagrams.\nStrong troubleshooting and documentation skills.\nValid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.\nWhat You'll Get\nMedical \nDental \nVision\n401K\nEqual Opportunity Employer\nAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex (including gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity), age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, and/or any other basis protected by applicable federal, state or local law.We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability and protected veteran status.
